Some tracks which will probably feature on RE-Mit (as different versions) were released as an EP for Record Store Day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEhvPb8IQt8&list=UUrlNfrIF5btzKozbcC1bRIg&index=1

"Sir William Wray" in particular has got me excited. It's funny how if you haven't listened to the Fall for a while and then you hear a new song, just how fresh they sound.

While posting the above, i also found some live versions had been posted on Youtube as well:

I should have kept it to two songs. It was this whole FIFA thing.

Desperate for entertainment
So I turn my TV on
There's people jumping up and down
Then they have the panel on
And they talk a lot of wind
They talk a lot of wind
Then they have the weatherman on
He used to teach all our friends
He talked a lot of wind
He talks a lot about the wind
Then they have Carl Lewis on
He's got a ponytail and he's a vegan
He talks a lot of wind
He talks a lot about the wind

Love ' A Lot of Wind'.

One day, the Fall will be gone.

And next year he's bloody 60! Feels like the other day they released '50 Year Old Man'. Frightening. Enjoyed their last EP. Tell you an album you might like... Wolfhounds: 'Middle Aged Freaks' (2014).

Listening to The Fall today, and I came up with a wonderfully accurate portrayal of the machinations of Mark E Smiths lyrics in my head. I absolutely nailed it. I forget it now, but... it was something along the lines of 'take a lump of clay... form a large solid rectangle. Stick something to it... drill a hole through it... remove the stick, do something else'... I went on like this for ages and created a sculpture. The sculpture, after a days work, looked a complete and utter mess, so I was then forced to 'tidy' it up a bit, so I was allowing myself to lose the freedom, and start 'thinking' and 'deciding' - that awful point. I kept on trying to keep to the script, but I then kept up tidying, and 'forming' something. I was doing this for a while, and then I threw it on the floor. It was a mess again, and now bin-worthy, but it still needed picking up... so I picked it up, and made it look sort of OK again. Something like that.

He's 60 tomorrow. I thought he was 50 only the other year?  :P

Excellent playlist on offer tracking some selected tunes in the recent Happy Birthday from the Quietus. 60 on offer... incredible that you'd whip off a good few dozen tunes you'd want selected, or added. Really good compilation tho.

It's a beast.. as is Telephone Thing.

That playlist that one or two readers put together based on the Quietus article is really really special. Except for a bit of Ween and Nina Simone this week+, it's gone round and round and round on virtual constant repeat since it was published (1 to 60, not on shuffle). I hardly ever listen to The Fall in shuffle mode, or in compilations, but it's, by complete accident I think, a beautifully paced compilation. It's a great way for anyone to explore them... give it a whirl ;)

60 songs for his 60 years, and it's missing dozens of tracks... you could double it and there'd still be gaps. Quite incredible really. Spanning the near 40 years of their existence... it's almost an essential portrait of a hell of a band (the greatest ever I'd argue). The number of times you want to reach for the volume button...

Sadly I can't find 'Das Vulture Ans Ein Nutter-Wein' from 'The Light User Syndrome' LP from 1996 on youtube... so having to make-do with the one that follows immediately after on the compilation... the banging 'Dedication Not Medication' from Sub-Lingual Tablet (2015)

In other news (see here), I managed to bag a ticket for the Fall, live at The 100 Club, for the princely sum of £5.00.

I got a heads up somehow at around 12:00pm today. They'd just announced it... 5 quid!!? First time the Fall have ever played at the 100 Club?! Cue absolute panic. Click... click click... fucking website was down - white screen-nada.... click refresh, refresh, f5, f5, f5... then... Sold Out. FUCK. THAT. SHIT.

I'm not sure what happened after that, but I for some reason, just kept clicking the f5 button... half out of annoyance. Screen was white everytime again... nothing happening... until it decided to allow the page to come into being... '1 ticket available'.

ARGH!!!!

Wife needed to use the computer. 'You're doing what? Oh for fuck's sake.'  :lmao I then had to register etc... I still don't know if it's real, but yes, I think I got the last ticket. I think.

5 quid. Much more like it. Reckon that's going to be a blast.

... and I read somewhere that they'd sold out 5 nights at a famous venue in the States... Brownies... is that in New Jersey or New York? Not even sure when they are there, but sold out in four hours. Is it me or are people starting to hunger for a bit of Fall these days? Yhere just seems to be a growing edge about them.

Have to say... but anyone even remotely interested in music should go and see The Fall at least once. 'Yeah, have never really liked the Fall'... go see them before the arch angel of Britain finally croaks.

This 100 Club gig apparently is the first airing of their new LP so I'm pretty excited. There's a Ltd Ed. 10" Double LP out at the mo. Must do that. Wish I wasn't going on my own tho. It said '1 ticket remaining'... so... argh! Clickclickclickclick.

Only been to the 100 Club once to see The Gossip... so I know that I have a hugely prized 'ticket' here as it's so small, but you've been to some I seem to remember...

Obviously I'm very drunk, so can't comment, but shit me... he doesn't look well. Don't think Smith was that arsed tonight. Too much focus or something, but he was almost sheepish. He disappeared very early on. I was quite shocked at the state of him to be honest. There was none of that great entry on stage of his, but the band played on. I think he ended up singing from backstage. Again. No Merch either. Was hoping to grab the album. Not sure who the woman was who almost took his place on stage... she looked a bit like Siouxsie. She was good. She got dragged in off stage. Ha. Jeremy Vine was there with his brother.

He's just played a song from the concert on Radio2.  Apparently he sang from the VIP area as he was pretty unwell.

Cheers.. will have a listen to that.

He's gone off stage to sing before when he was well... last night tho, he had the face and neck of Alan Brazil. Usually when he walks on stage there's a huge roar, but those cheers were pretty flat when he appeared... like me, most were in a bit of shock I think. Great gig tho... mental, bizarre and surreal at times but much fun was had. Bumped into 2 old friends of mine too which was nice.

The support band were excellent too... 'Goat Girl'. Cracking drummer.

New album took a while for me to 'get into', but have been really enjoying it this morning. Read one review that said it was 'awful'. It's a bit of a grower granted, and I think it will get better with each listen, but it's certainly not awful!

My song of choice at the moment tho is this beauty from their Levitate LP (1997). If I was on the team bus tomorrow night, this would be the song playing in my ears as I step out of it and into the stadium. Absolute banger.

Shhhh

We are private detectives onward back from a musical pilgrimage
We work under the name of the Fall.
Who would suspect this?
It is too obvious.
Our office is secluded.
Those there to suspect
Would not see the wood for the trees
We were six like dice but we're back to five
Up here in the North there are no wage packet jobs for us
Thank Christ
While young married couples discuss the poverties
Of their self-built traps
And the junior clergy demand more cash
We spit in their plate and wait for the ice to melt

I must create a new regime
Or live by another man's
Before the moon falls
I must create a new scheme
And get out of others' hands
Before the moon falls

I could use some pure criminals
And get my hands on some royalties
Before the moon falls

A problem of this new scheme
Is answering obscene phone calls
Before the moon falls

Gotta stop drifting around
Kill this ugly duckling
We've got the power
And must not misuse it
Cos life is short and full of thought
I use the power

And will forever end this reign of terror
Before the moon falls
Before the tide subsides
Before the moon falls for the fifth time
Before The Fall swoons

30 years since the release of I Am A Kurious Orange LP this week. So that's 10th Oct 1988. Punk band teams up with ballet troupe, just so happened to involve Leigh Bowery etc. Confounded Fall fans and the ballet community. My son is 8 and still does ballet. It's good for his football!

All time top 10 Fall LP. The colour Orange has been getting a really bad press recently, so this comes at a crucial time. Viva the revolution for the colour orange!

(p.s. and yes, bring back those orange shirts you stupid wankers)

Brilliant album.
No, jazz. You fear jazz. You fear the lack of rules, the lack of boundaries. Oh look, it's a fence. But, no, it's soft.

I saw The Fall on that tour at the Royal Court. Mad mix of ballerinas and Mark E Smith with a megaphone.

A year on from when the big fella died.

Heard a song yesterday by the Fall that was totally unknown to me previous. This seems to be part of the journey when it comes to the Fall.. you hear songs previously unknown to you, and you find yourself shouting the shit out of it somewhere in some dark corner of the interweb,.
