Hi Folks,

would like a bit of helpful input if possible on this one,

My 7 year old Daughter has been fortunate enough to be chosen to be the mascot at the West Ham game next month, shes super excited as am I.

A Friend of mine had a child selected as a mascot a few years ago and on the form was asked to list 2 players who the child would like to meet. He selected Stevie G and (for the life of me I don't know why) Balotelli. When them came to meet the child he said Gerrard was lukewarm as best and Balotelli was a complete wanker and turned down the childs request for a photo ( not surprising really) !!

Given the same choice I would much prefer that my Kid meets two players that are going to be polite and friendly, rather than some prima donna who's head is up their own arse.

I've heard decent things about Sturridge / Lallana and Coutinho, in relation to how they deal with the public, anyone else with helpful insight on this matter your guidance would be much appreciated.

Coutinho might be the nicest guy in the world. If your kid doesn't mind going into whatever dungeon he's shackled in, Sakho would have been good.

I bet Milner would be nice as well

Lucas and Coutinho are as nice as you can get; Phil hardly stops smiling when he does anything with the public, and Lucas is just very warm and outgoing generally. Alberto seems sound, in a divvy sort of way. Sturridge is a lovely guy, but has a bit of a moody face - good looking lad, but defo moody chops!

Depends how sensitive your kid is to this kind of thing, they might well buzz off one of their heroes being a wee bit of a distant hardknock with them, rather than showering them with love.

Henderson as captain (and Milly) would both be nice and polite, but probably unspectacular. Mamadou would be the wild card!

Sturridge & Lucas would be good. My kids love watching the Kop Kids feature on LFCTV. They have some nice stuff on there, even though some of the kid presenters are very annoying. There was a Kop Kids with Sturridge where he surprised kids at a local school. They set it up so a kid would do the Sturridge celebration dance and he would sneak in behind them & start doing it too. He was really brilliant with all the kids. He also did a dance off on another Kop Kids show with some kid who did hip-hop style 'dancing' & he was brilliant with her too.

Lucas was also brilliant with the kids when he's been on. The clip when he's working in the club shop in disguise is brilliant. This little kid just doesn't recognise him but as soon as he takes his wig off, the kids face just lights up.

I need to get out more don't I...

Only ever met Lucas, just to say a brief hello but he was very polite and easy going - a good bloke.

Henderson signed my FIFA copy once, seems sound. Firmino looks like he'd be a nice guy to be around, and Moreno too

Some random historic ones I know of on this topic:I know somebody who used to walk the players to the coach/cars after the games. Says Hyypia used to be the best, he'd stay ages signing stuff for people and taking pictures, Reina was similar. Owen never stopped for anybody. Carragher was sound as was Kuyt. He told me a few more but can't remember right now. When he was walking the Barcelona team once, Rivaldo gave him a Barcelona pin with a little diamond thing (not a real diamond obv) in the middle of the badge, said he was really nice.

Seriously though, have met Coutinho - very nice guy. Other half has met Lucas a few times and he is great.

If Sturridge is this nice to two random kids in the car park, I imagine he'd be a great shout!

I'd personally pick Firmino too as he looks like such a nice guy and a bit of a character.

As other say though Lucas would be one of the safest bets for sure.

When are these 'meet and greets' done with the mascots? Before or after the game?

If it's before then that would explain why some players are 'lukewarm' or don't want to know. I couldn't be arsed with kids pestering for photos and being all excited while I'm preparing for a game. Even if I did always want to be a mascot so I could peck Gerrard's head for an hour before kick off.

With all that in mind, choose Lucas! He'll be on the bench and seems a really funny guy who will be good with the mascots.

Dejan Lovren always comes across as a funny and fun loving personality off the field, I'd put a vote in for him. And I'd put good money on Gini Wijnaldum being a good un too, I mean the lad never stops smiling!

friend of mine went abroad (not saying where)with some mates.
Gerrard and a group of his mates turned up and wanted a late drink, a small restaurant bar. The staff wanted my friend and his group to leave (they were the last in the bar). Gerrard asked if they could stay, chatted to them for the rest of night 3/4 hours and picked up the bar tab of everyone (a couple of them are manc supporters).

Think about which of them can speak English as well. Coutinho can but not sure if he is completely fluent and Firmino most likely can't speak much of it.

Lucas, Henderson, Sturridge and Lallana are probably your best bets.

I met Peter Beardsley after the Arsenal game in 87/88 when he scored a beauty. I was in awe of him and my Dad told him it was a great goal and he flashed his wonky grin and thanked him. Had forgotten all about that until reading this thread!

Excuse my ignorance but I thought the mascots only walked out with the 11 starters so wouldn't it be a bit hit and miss for Lucas to be playing? Same with Studge?

There's a tunnel cam video floating around somewhere, can't remember which game it was for but most of the players posed for photos, like the one above as they came through. Might be an idea to have a watch and see who have the best reactions when or if they stop.

Anyway, hope she has a fab time mate.

Its a very good question considering this is your daughters biggest LFC day ever.

To be honest, with our current squad, Klopp's philosophy and team ethics doesn't allow for a moody or wanker player you might try and dodge, and that goes for Sturridge too who I have a few times on the Stanley Car park myself and he is ALWAYS sound with kids, adults, selfie takers and autograph hunters alike.

In fact Id say stick Daniel's name on the form.

Also, I'm a sucker for the players that are last off the pitch at the end of every game and win, lose or draw they clap the fans. Carra was great for this especially in his LFC early days and now it seems to be Lovren, Lucas and Mig (when he plays).

It also shows just how great our squad is now in that you really wouldn't be disappointed no matter which player you got to meet.

El Hadj Diouf. Was out and about in Bolton and saw the dickhead driving round bolton in his pimped up jeep. Leaning out the window, blasting his music, seeing if anyone noticed him. It's fucking bolton like.

What about Karius, Germans are (mostly) sound, polite etc, he'll be in the starting 11 and every 10 yr old girl will have a pic of him on their wall in a few years. Other than that, has to be Coutinho for me

Jordan Henderson is briliant. Had my photo taken with him a few times, and he has always been brilliant, especially with little one. He's really taken his captaincy and the responsibility of the field seriously.

Lucas is also a very nice guy off the field, and i had no issues getting pictures with him.

The worst has probably been Stevie G, but i completely understand - his level of fame is just massive, and if he stopped for one he'd been stuck all day just signing autographs and taking selfies.

Seems to be the case for most players that reach that level of adulation and I can totally understand it.

Aside from being shit at Footy, and Lazy I though Mario was supposed to be a nice guy. I guess not.

The meet is before the game apparently, really appreciate all the feedback , She loves Coutinho by far and away her favourite player and I figure Hendo will be walking her out on the field anyway so we're left with one to pick.

Spoke to my mate last night and he said that Lucas came and took a picture with his kid after balo snubbed them, apparently he saw it happen and that Brendan Rodgers was really dead on as well.

The only player as of the end of last season who my young lad has yet to have a photo with & autograph is Henderson. Snubbed everyone each time, unsure why!

Best by far are the Brazilians. Skrtel was always good as well.

Possibly. But he's also quite an aloof character. I'll never forget him having a shirt thrown at him to sign by a young girl and him throwing it straight back at her in disgust before driving off in his Bentley. The poor girl was in tears. Fantastic footballer, and probably matured and became increasingly approachable as he aged, but he was definitely a bit of a bell when he was younger.

Its a tough one cos some players are nervy before games and some are just better with kids than others. You'd imagine the brazilian lads seem really family orienated and henderson, lalana, milner seem down to earth enough and from what i've seen of sturridge he doesnt mind a photo with the kids outside the ground
