I think this will be the one game where Steven wont mind being substituted at the end.

May be. Carra and Gerrard are different breed though. They feel fucking embarrassed if they are on bench/substituted. Carra was set to retire mid season for this reason and Gerrard didn't sign contract extension. They are warriors.

I mean, substituting Steven at the end will mean a standing ovation. Something that cant happen if he plays the entire 90 minutes.

Think this has just hit me today. I've taken Steven for granted so many times, and now all I want is to continue to see him at his best in a red shirt. I was 8 when he made his debut, so Gerrard at Liverpool is all i've really known.

He's always wanted the best for this club, and to have a local lad captaining this team has been incredible. Wish him the best in LA but desperately hope he returns to the club in some capacity.

I feel sick just thinking about Saturday.

Lots of praise and admiration flying about for Steven Gerrard today and rightly so. A phenomenal career at his boyhood club. #legend

In all seriousness, the most complete midfielder of my generation. He could do it all and did for a number of years.

Tonight I was reminded of his greatest moment in a red shirt. The finals we all remember, Olympiakos and countless other goals and performances were he simply dragged us over the line, but back in 1999 when he came on v Everton and made 2 goal-line clearances, the 2nd of which, his celebration summed him up for me.

I can't believe that soon he'll no longer be pulling on that famous red shirt. The greatest we'll ever see.
You bugger! You've just made me tear up!
I saw all the greats, From Shankly's 11 Paisley's team, even Kenny's. Steven Gerrard did all they did ON HIS OWN!!! I never ever saw a player with his drive and commitment, and in recent years when the legs are starting to go, he is still doing it. QPR, the win was every bit as important as any he ever scored. It gave us hope and that is what Gerrard always gave us.

Spoke to Phil Thompson about sterling yesterday," he said let him go, if he doesn't feel connection to the club." I said "he needs to remember one name; Shaun Wright Phillips." He said, "Jack Rodwell too."
They will never flourish as Steve has any where else.

95% of what he says on Twitter is a joke. Some things just continuously go over people's heads...

I am (being born in the 90's) very much a part of the Gerrard generation. He's the best I've ever known, and I don't know if we will have a similar player like him in a red shirt ever again.

This is my latest favourite of his goals, but that changes weekly

Sadly I'm not.

I just never got it. Looking at sinnermichaels post with the picture and all the quotes from big players and managers, I just can't see that he was that good, yes he was very good, but as good as some of those quotes suggest?

Of course, as a person with a poor memory, my recollections may be tainted by his recent performances.

I agree he hasn't reached the heights this season, but like the old saying goes (paraphrase): "He's not as good as he once was, but he's as good once as he ever was!"
