I was tempted after looking at a few pics and reviews about Kazan, looks nice, very modern and a new stadium to boot.
Found flights for under 450 euro return (albeit 10 hours one way.)and tried to check out a hotel combined...not possible.

Checked out the Visa and found out since January 2015 all visitors need to be accompanied (ripped off) by a third party Russian tourist guide or something like that.

Fuck it, if they want to make it so difficult to visit, I won't.....shame though, the city looks fantastic.

See you there then Coops. Edinburgh to Geneva early Thursday gets us there at 10 am. Train runs every half hour to Sion from Geneva Airport & takes 2 hours, cost approx £80 but can't book tickets within 3 months. Train from airport about 11am looks to be the one we'll be on. Hotels in Sion are few & far between now so had to get one 5 miles out called La Regence.

Yes mate we're out of London on Wednesday lunchtime and back on Friday. Staying up in the hills outside Sion as you says they're limited on hotels it seems. We'll be getting one of those trains as well.

Sion - flight and hotels all booked
Bordeaux - A bit of a nightmare, only arriving back in Mnachester from Dubai on Wednesday night. Bit of a challenge to get into Bordeaux in time. Trying to reschedule my business flight
Kazan - if the game is moved to Moscow I think I will go. Kazan flight is only 90 min from Moscow, but still this adds to cost and time.

Have they said why this is, do they think there won't be the interest for the EL?

They are no longer an official club partner, I don't think. Heard that last season. They didn't say as much but someone said their name has gone from the website? She just said they aren't running trips to our games this season.

Even so, and I did hate TC (thou understand they were convenient for people who only had one day off),I think it is poor that the club don't have an official trip for any.

And didn't even tell us. Some might be waiting fur them to announce details!

AND they still have home match packages listed so still raking it in!!

All booked up.

Hope Kazan is better than the last couple of Russian trips, the visa's were a pain in the arse before they changed them, even worse now.

How did you sort the third party Russian tour operater John?
And how much did that set you back?

As I said earlier I found decent priced flights but the visa and the rest is putting me off.

I prefer to travel independetly, flights/hotels individual and so. A mate told me you have to stay over in Moscow for at least one night if you travel there, any truth in that?

In my experience you can be a bit free and easy with the truth on the Russian visa applications. My sister lived there for years and she always just put the Moscow hilton as her sponsor on all her visas and so did everyone else. I've been a couple of times and I've just filled the form in however was easiest.

That was my thinking anyway but these new rules since January this year makes that a bit dodgey. It's a direct response from Russia against the Western Sanctions because of the Ukraine conflict, I just want to watch a game of football and visit somewhere new and do it my own way for a few days......why can't UEFA or FIFA intervene and put pressure to make it easier for football fans?

*Edit* Stupid question really!!!

To be honest, I never even knew there were changes when I booked it. Have been a few times before, the first time we went to Spartak (93?) was hard work but each time since has been relatively easy, if a pain in the arse.

when we played there twice two years ago (Anzhi and Zenit) the hotel just sent us invites. I've emailed the hotel today to ask them for advice so hopefully they will come up with something, have also heard that Ruben Kazan will actually send you an invite free of charge so dropped them a line too. Haven't got a night in Moscow, only an hour or so!!

I have been down for the Visa myself a few times so not that bothered about that but it is usually just one trip that looks like being 4 separate ones this time. am flying into Gatwick on the Friday after Bordeaux so will try to do the Visa that day, invite permitting. I don't reckon it'll be that hard, at the end of the day, they want the dough for the Visa's.

So is the game definitely going to be played in Kazan?

Are you aware they changed it to Moscow against Chelsea as it was too cold? (February)

What time's the last train to Basel? Last one to Geneva is about 11pm but to Bern is only about 10pm.

yes and yes, I believe. They are showing it as being played in central stadium, Kazan. They could always move it because they don't give a fuck about footy fans, but doubt they will, especially with the World Cup coming to Russia.

UEFA got straight on the match being switched to Sofia last season and they are showing this, if there was a chance it could be moved, don't think that they would:

Gonna be cutting it fine to get train. Doubtful even to get tickets if many swiss supporters travelling.
Anyone know who is appropriate link person for the supporters committee?  See if they can ask the club to liaise regarding holding back time/travel arrangements.

Had a look at trains back from Sion day after, the SBB site seems to give you 4 minute connection in some place called Visp.. cutting that fine but seems to be the only option unless you book the journey separately.
