Today Fm here in EIRE is good, especially Alice Cooper on a Saturday evening

Can't beat a bit of Ray D'arcy. Grown up with him in a way. From the Den and now the radio.

for music, way way back in the 80s, I LOVED radio luxembourg.  My girlfriend loved it and got me into it.  Superb station, which brings back many lovely memories.

Radio1 all day.  if you're tuning into Radio 2 you may as well kiss goodbye to being young.

if you're tuning into Radio 1 you may as well put an electric drill in your ears, and forcibly remove your hearing.

Radio 1 is still the best place to hear good new music.

Whilst some of the presenters and their presenting style may piss off the more (ahem) mature listener you can't fault the likes of Zane lowe, colin murray and even whiley and lamacq for their constant support of good new british music.

I couldn't if that was what they done.

Whiley in particular, plays some absoloutely unlistenable shite.

And the music is far too narrow on R1 (as well as several of the presenters being awful) they omit 10 times more good new music than they play, because they judge it not "cool" enough.

such as...

such as anything the NME doesn't tell it to play.

There's some fantastic new music out there - even some very big established worldwide acts, big american acts etc, that radio 1 just will not play. (at least during the day - I do realise they will often put on niche shows at 4 in the morning, etc)

haven't read the NME myself since about 1998.

Radio 1 plays new music and supports new music both british and american.  it might not play a lot of it between 7 and 7 but if you listen to the specialist shows (which you can at any time via the internet) I challenge you to find me good, credible new alternative music that Radio 1 ignores.

That's a fair comment, and the reason I try to do much of my listening by the internet.

However, my gripe is exactly with Radio 1 from 8am - 6pm, when I am forced, most days, to listen to it in work.

Awful, repetitive, narrowly focussed shite.

very tru but you'll never get away from that at any major radio station be it ILR (City, Key 103, Capital etc) or nationwide radio like Radio 1, virgin.

its all formulaic - designed for people to set their clock by.  Pay attention to any radio station and you can here the daytime playist repeating itself.  i used to play a game where I would flick over to Radio City at exactly the same time on my way home  and every day for a week I got the same 2 records.

Radio 1 is formulaic - news on the half hour - 2 song segueway with ident in the middle - link, song, link, 3 song segueway over the hour and repeat.

Unfortunately its demand driven - that, apparently, is what people want.

Helpfully now the internet provides more refined choice and more specialist stations and programmes.

However, I'm still a big 1fm fan as I like the style...and they play the records I like when I like them................................................................................

Scott Mills was presenting the radio one breakfast show this morning.  At about 7.10am he was discussing the birth of a colleagues baby and was pleased to announce that the baby had been born overnight and was doing well.  He then dedicated the next song to the baby's mother.

The song, "Bleed it Out".

I nearly cacked myself.

I listen to 1FM Flashback Alternatives all day, it's a interweb station, I think it's based around the Michigan area somwhere.

It's superb, plays pretty much all the mustic I loved in the 80's/90's  ;D Stuff like Echo & the Bunnymen, OMD, Tears for Fears, China Crisis, Depeche Mode, The The, Psychedelic Furs, Blancmange etc etc etc - all day long!

I haven't listed to Radio 1 in years, any radio station that employs that talentless moron Chris Moyles - I ain't bothering with.

My car radio is always tuned to Radio 4, with the exception of Saturday afternoons when, if I'm not at the match, I listen to the scores going through on Radio 5.

Radio City sometimes - they do repeat a lot which gets on my nerves

I also like the Roger Philips phone in on Radio Merseyside

I listen to Radio 5 in the car (only becasue I have lost my ariel and that is the only station I can receive), e

I prefer local radio to national so usually listen to Radio Merseyside, but switch to City for the footy.

For Cricket, you cant beat Radio 4 LW.

Haha remember that one ,same records every hour.

I listen to the radio every day in work and I alternate between Radio 1 ,Radio 2 ,Heart FM and Capitol. Basically when I turn up on site I tune into whatever is going already and keep that on until I get bored after a week or so.

Radio 1 I listen too less and less now since that annoying prick Grimmy took over the breakfast show.

Don't have a digital radio in the car though so it's iPod all the way. Minster FM and Capital can fuck off.

Radio 6 for general listening especially on Sundays...around 4 with Jarvis and Iggy very good when wine in has kicked and Sunday dinner on the go......though not sure why it still tags the whole 'Alternative' thing....nothing is alternative anymore...its good or it aint.

On the Wire - BBC Radio Lancashire Saturdays Midnight to 2 am...Its been going for and Ive been listening to it for thirty years..... only show to match Peel and was cutting edge in 80's and 90's...still is though I'm not sure what 'cutting edge'  means to some anymore...as people prefer a blunt knife e.g War On Drugs.

Footbal on 5/TalkShite...finally gave up on it a year ago...hysterical shite, with a dumbed down approach to 'White Van Man' target audience.
