What will the legacy be like for Leverkusen (Alonso aside)?

They've got a good history but always fell short in the end which was part of their identity (Neverkusen). Shaking that off this season can they win more titles in the future?

Obviously main issue in Germany is nobody can financially compete with Bayern.

If they go unbeaten then it's up there with the best club seasons ever. It's extremely difficult and I don't think it's ever been done.

Going forward, Bayern will cherrypick their best players and normal service will resume very sokn.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundesliga_records_and_statistics

Bayern hold pretty much every record in Germany, even for an indivisual season Even if Leverkusen win the rest of their games, Bayern still hold the points record for a season and most wins in a season etc.

One thing they've never done is go unbeaten though. But even the most games unbeaten record in Bundesliga Bayern hold at 53. Leverkusen would have to go unbeaten past Christmas next season to break that.

What Leverkusen can do will top Bayern's record. Going unbeaten in all competitions and winning every trophy is unheard of.

Yeah. I've said all season as well that Leverkusen are good enough to have won the CL this season and are unfortunate not to be in it. 2 of the 4 teams left in it are Bundesliga teams they've been well ahead of all season and that could be the final - it'd be typical if Bayern go and upstage them by winning the CL. Although they'd have more likely lost a game at some point they could have genuinely won the treble and gone uneaten in the league at least - that hasn't been done before. But if they can do it and win the Europa League it's also massive. Only 5 games left and German Cup final against a 2nd division side. They've also avoided us in Europe - i'm sure they'd rather face Marseille or Atalanta.

Trye, the CL doesn't look great great this year and they would have had a good chance.

Even Dortmund are a draw away from making the final.

One thing they've never done is go unbeaten though. But even the most games unbeaten record in Bundesliga Bayern hold at 53. Leverkusen would have to go unbeaten past Christmas next season to break that.

“The win [against Frankfurt yesterday] means that Leverkusen has now equaled the record for the longest unbeaten run across all top-level matches since the introduction of European competition, according to UEFA.

The club shares the mark with Portuguese giant Benfica, which set the record between 1963-65.”

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/06/sport/bayer-leverkusen-equals-record-unbeaten-spt-intl/index.html

Just have to avoid defeat to Roma on Thursday to break the record.

HSV have an outside chance of a promotion/relegation playoff spot. I doubt many HSV fans would have thought when they were relegated six years ago, they'd still be 2. Bundesliga at this point. They've not finished lower than 4th in the 2. Bundesliga as well.

Yeah it sucks to be honest. Oh well, next year then... :(

Bayern turned down by Lopetegui is a new low. :lmao Serves them right for switching Nagelsmann for the gremlin in the first place.

They'll end up with Solksjaer at this rate.

It's the greatest time ever for all non-Bayern fans. There's a picture doing the rounds on WhatsApp with some text saying "If this number +49xxxx-xxxx is calling you, don't pick up your phone. It's Bayern looking for a manager". Loads of other fun memes and jokes as well. It's also great to suggest possible managers to Bayern fans you know. You can ask them what's Hitzfeld doing these days, whether they've heard what Otto Rehhagel is up to these days and a lot of other funny things... :D

How has Guirassy been throughout the second half of the season?

He was ripping it up earlier in the campaign when I had the chance to watch a few games.

Got to be a bit annoying if you're Köln. Fight back from 2-0 down to get a win that keeps your hopes of avoiding relegation alive, and then one of the top teams rolls over for a rival.

Now they need a win, a Union Berlin loss and a GD swing just to make the relegation play off.

GOAL DISALLOWED! Controversy and anger as Maximilian Beier (Hoffenheim) has a goal ruled out, incredibly, for offside.

Attention! Referee Florian Badstubner straight away wants to review previous situation with VAR, presumably for a possible offside in the build-up.

Maximilian Beier (Hoffenheim) receives a killer pass, finds himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and coolly fires the ball into the middle of the net.

Best thing for them though, they need other German clubs doing well to keep them on their toes and the league certainly does.

They'd have loved to have pinched Alonso from Leverkusen, like they'd have loved to have pinched Klopp from Dortmund, but they're going to need to be more creative than that.

What a goal that is! Pavel Kaderabek (Hoffenheim) gets to the ball inside the box and brilliantly lifts the ball over Alexander Brunst and into the net. 0:3.

Ozan Kabak (Hoffenheim) jumped highest inside the box to meet a perfectly executed corner kick by Andrej Kramaric. His header was precise and ended up in the top right corner, leaving the goalkeeper flapping in the wind. The score is 0:4.
