Wait is this news? I heard about that deal last November, although it was from a guy working in investments so maybe it was known in financial sector but not fully in the public zeitgeist yet?

I am just now curious if I had inside knowledge without realizing it at all or if this is just confirmation of something already out there

It's not relevant with the new FFP rules in place. The club can run itself.

that said - I think we missed a trick with Bellingham - should have offered him equity in the club and just let him co-call the shots with Klopp. probably would have solved all our problems.

Utter bollocks that table. United 6 places more valuable than Madrid? 16 places higher than us? Based on what? Because it's not Jim fucking Ratcliffe's 1.25 bill.

For those who cant see behind the paywall

£9m pre-tax loss with overall revenue remaining static at £594m
Media revenue dropped to £242m (£19m less than last year due to poor cup runs)
Match day revenue down £7m (again due to poor cup runs and the building of the new stand)
Administrative costs up £17m to £562m
Wage bill up from £366m to £373m (including the signings of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Calvin Ramsay along with the 12 new contract extensions including Salah)
But commercial revenues (Nike, standard chartered, Experia shirt deal and the rest) rose £25m to £272m (to further record levels).

Put it this way. A good run this year and have the new Anfield road open to hospitality next season with a sell out US preseason tour, CL football and the books are going to look good for the next few years.

No worry of FFP or whatever shit Everton have got going on heading our way

hahaha - no way are the Commanders more valuable than Liverpool. They were purchased for a ridiculous number - but that's all NFL teams. But part of that was an inflated fee to get Dan Synder to shut up, sell up, and walk away from the NFL and to avoid a decade of litigation.

There is no global fanbase for the Commanders (or most NFL team) to the level that big footy teams have. The biggest aspect of american sports is that there is no relegation so you know you never have to worry.

Not sure how accurate it is and I'm not going to be doing any research or anything but according to this site, https://www.sportico.com/leagues/football/2023/nfl-epl-profits-comparison-1234737931/, the Commanders made $87m in operating profit in 2022 which is higher then any football club in the world.  NFL teams basically print money.

No relegation, huge domestic TV deals, massive domestic interest driving commercial mean all NFL teams are worth loads. That’s despite a relative lack of overseas interest in a lot of these teams.

It’s probably true that most NFL teams have a lot less worldwide support than football teams. But that’s probably not the biggest driver in brand value. NFL brand value is huge driven by unbelievable domestic interest.

Yeah that's sort of what I am getting at - but very inartfully.

NFL teams (and now NBA teams it seems) - have an amazing closed system that allows them to print money.

I guess the metric is that Liverpool/Madrid/Barca/ManU are all easily more popular than 99% (maybe Cowboys and Steelers - and for a while the Patriots) of NFL teams - but the NFL teams will make more money.

I guess that's the bottom line on "valuable" (salary caps help too)

NFL franchises are designed to be profitable. The salary cap’s set at a % of revenue, I’m pretty sure less than 50% of revenue goes to player costs, and pretty much benefits from a system that essentially develops players free of charge as players represent high schools then college teams, arriving in the league pretty much ready to play with a really short shelf life via the draft. Rookie contracts protect teams and the entire system is designed for teams to not be bad for very long. NFL teams are pretty much at their earnings potential, though, whereas football is still considered to have untapped potential yet to be exploited.

NFL teams are rightly valuable, there’s only 32 of them with little chance of expansion, teams get stadia funded by taxpayers and a lot of the teams pretty much represent a state rather than a town/city, meaning their ‘catchment area’ is more akin to international football teams than clubs. All of that stuff will be factored into those valuations but I wouldn’t be shocked if in 10-15 years time the majority of the most valuable sports teams in the world are the big European football clubs, especially if UEFA and the premier league properly enforce rules around proper profitability, which a lot of these American investors will push for.
