Do we need to add Villa? Haha.  ;D
Yes, I think so

Feels strange to be doing it, but I think Chelsea will be the ones to make way.

Thanks Prof.

In terms of top 4 it's going to be City, Ar$e, us and one other. Can't see Spurs or Villa being there at the end of the season. Think it'll be between ManU and the Saudi's, my bet ManU. Would prefer it to be Villa though.

Thought this would be a transition year for us, but now we really have something to play for. Think we'll bring someone in in Jan who will give everyone a bit of a lift and the team will get more consistency and defensive solidity.

These players look like they really want to challenge for the league, and also get to Dublin and win that.

Thanks, Prof! Looks like Villa took a big step toward top 4 by gaining 5 points on their direct rivals: +2 for Villa, -3 for Spurs.

Surprised Villa are doing so well if I’m being honest. That was by far our easiest win of the season so far.

Fully expecting Villa to nosedive soon. Their next 3 games are par 3 and include Arsenal and City, I’d be surprised if that’s not at least -6 from those games.

Surprised Villa are doing so well if I’m being honest. That was by far our easiest win of the season so far.

Their next 6:

Bournemouth (A)
Man City (H)
Arsenal (H)
Brentford (A)
Sheffield United (H)
Man United (A)

Only one game you'd be absolutely confident of them winning in that lot (especially given that the Bournemouth and Brentford games fall after a European game). If they're still in the mix afterwards then fair enough, but that would also likely be of a benefit to us as it'll mean Arsenal/City/United dropping points.

I wasn't sure if this was the best place to post this, but stealing from the Guardian, someone has done a "top 10" (*including Chelsea*) vs each other mini table, to see of the top 10, as it is so tight (at least the top 8-9). whether certain teams have had "easier" fixtures, and how well they have done in these harder fixtures:

TeamTotal GamesHomeAwayWonDrawLossGoals For/AgainstPointsPoints per game
Man City73442114/9142.00
Liverpool72533113/8121.71
Aston Villa62440214/11122.00
Newcastle74331312/10101.43
Spurs64222212/1081.33
Arsenal5322218/681.60
Brighton63321311/1571.17
West Ham6332139/1371.17
Chelsea74313313/1660.86
Man Utd4220022/1100.00

What this shows is the difference between us and City is basically down to the 1 extra home game they had (which they won) and the Spurs game which the refs cheated us on; Villa have the joint best record with City, although from only 6 games (and the games they did win were Brighton at home, Chelsea away, West ham home and Spurs away - so hardly the hardest fixtures).  On the flip siode, Unit have had the easiest fixtures so far, having only played 4 of the top 10 (and got 0 points from those 4 games), with Arsenal the 2nd hardest (due to only 5 fixtures, but have the 4th best record) and Spurs the 3rd (due to home/away split - and even with their cheated points from our match, have got an average record - if we won that game, and they lost, then we'd have the best record frtom the hardest set of fictures, and they'd have the second worst ppg at 0.83 despite this 3rd easiest set).

This also explains how United are only 4 points behind us - thanks to a disproportionate number of games against the bottom 10, masking their terrible performance in bigger games (their 4 games were against Spurs away, Brighton at home, Arsenal away, and Man City at home, so a mixture).  Villa's next top half team btw is City at home next Weds - a loss in that takes them to the same record as we have; they then have Arsenal at home the Sat as well; whereas our next one is Man United at home.

Not trying to take anything away from them, but their recent home winning streak includes no big teams, they'll probably lose to Both City and Arsenal.

If you go back, Villa beat Newcastle, Tottenham and Brighton last season and 6-1 this.

Yes, everyone moves along at 0 apart from the 2 Manchester sides and Villa. Definitely a good weekend for us.

What a position we've found ourselves in! Some really tough games coming up but if we can hold our ground by the time we've played Newcastle on NYD, then I really think it's on!

One game at a time lads. starting on Wednesday!
We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

What's the most any team have come back from to finish on above 90?

As in City on -4 now, has anyone come back from that to be above par?

In 2020-21 City came back from -4 to +4 then gradually tailed off to finish on -4 when the league was already won.

They also came back from -2 to +8 in 2018-19 to pip us by a point.

So the current gap is very far from unsurmountable.

City are notorious for putting on the afterburners in January and going on freakish unbeaten streaks. Liverpool are in a good place as things stand, but as we're a normal football club, patchy form can lead to banana skin results. It's imperative that City aren't allowed to gain any momentum.

Just noticed that we have drawn over half of our away games and won all our home games.

The boys and Klopp are doing the ultimate 'tip of the hat' to Prof.

You can bank on us drawing at Sheffield Utd and Crystal Palace - no chance we win both.  Just isn't happening. 8)

Let’s hope Villa beat City and we win our next two, the gap would be massive if that happens. Happy Arsenal are top for the moment though, let them take all the pressure of it until we are ready.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they've got a 10+ winning streak in them in the spring once De Bruyne is back (and provided Haaland and Rodri stay fit).
