Shanks privately blamed Lawrence for the 1965 European Cup Defeat against Inter Milan,Shanks said with a better Keeper we would have been the 1st British team to win the European Cup.

I find that quite hard to believe

Publicly he blamed the Ref,who as a matter of fact never officiated again

this is more like the truth

Its true about the ref he was found guilty of corruption in some other games years later, cant recall details though

Jose Maria Ortiz de Mendebil  the Spanish official in charge of the return leg, a physical attack from Tommy Smith on the referee after full time with the score 0-3 was not punished, Smithys verbal attack and kicking the referee where un-punished, that leads to suggest he was bent and took the bribe,  something he never disclosed and taken to the grave.

Never saw him live, was just before my time, but seen so many clips and heard stories about him. One of Shanklys men. A Reds legend. Shame on that reporter not knowing his name.

Honestly think you'd recognise him? I certainly wouldn't.

I hadn't forgotten him. ;)
Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there
With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair
She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns
"Come in", She said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm."

I might be in!

Tommy will never be forgotten.
Yeah, ask him what it was like in goal with no gloves ! Unimaginable now.

Watched Tommy Lawrence in goal for us many, many times. He was a lot better than he's given credit for these days.

In those days no goalie ever wore gloves unless it was either raining or freezing cold in winter. Even then they were the sort of normal woollen gloves anyone could buy down the shops. Hard to believe really but that's how it was back then
