Of course the Joe Allen supporters try to make this about Allen. Never mind the fact that he looked completely pedestrian literally the entire time he was on the pitch. We won so it must have been up to him.

This lad, at the very least, is a great squad player. Deserves a few more starts, imo.

I don't think we'd of been 2-0 down had he started.

Welsh Ronnie Whelan!

Composed, intelligent, tenacious and industrious.  He'll get a new contract, he's shown enough over the last few months that he can fit into Klopp's set up.

I really like him playing further forward. But he seems to look best coming on in the second half, his energy and composure really pushes on the attack and his pressing disrupts the defense, opens the game right back up like a trick. I imagine Klopp will keep using him just that way. It's working.

I really hope he is given a new contract. Despite the beard and the hair, he has only just turned 26 - he's got his best years ahead of him and the way he plays, he doesn't rely on pace so he probably has longer at the top than a more physical player.

Why aren't we tying this lad down so he has his best years at this Club?

I'm not saying he's a first choice player, because I think Klopp has other ideas in the middle but coming off the bench he is fantastic - not just when you want to hold onto a lead or inject some calm into the side, when pushed higher up he is a very, very decent option. He gets the ball and just finds space. It doesn't matter how many players are around him or closing him down, he rarely loses the ball and he can find a red shirt.

I think Klopp likes him from the bench too, whether it's carrying instructions and helping to organise or just injecting something we don't have but he has more to give this football Club for sure.

If he isn't absolutely bothered about not being a starter then I hope we have a new contract for him.

I'd be disappointed if he left, he's had his best season so far and although he may not be the ideal Klopp player the lad has proved he's a gifted & competent footballer who has proved he can tribute to matches at the highest level now. And this wasn't the first time we needed him.
This game needs Joe Allen.

Get Joe Allen on.

Joe Allen will bring a higher intensity and energy.

Joe Allen will pass it far better.

Joe Allen please.

I'm certain Jurgen will acquire a couple of CM beasts, but hopefully there'll be suffioecient games across 4 competitions where we'll need Joe again.

Am I wrong in thinking he looks a much better and different player under Klopp.  Energy going forward, dynamic.  Personally would love him to get a new contract.  May not be a starter but has a lot to add to the squad.

Simply must stay with us - I don't know how good is Grujic, how much fuel is left in Lucas, what's up with Can or Hendo but there has to be a place for Allen in our team. He's a reliable, consistent and hardworking player who will give his all and his all is a lot. New contract please.

The RAWK orthodoxy is that he's a tidy squad player.

But honestly, as far as I can tell he's turned into a sort of child-sized Socrates.

He's completely brilliant.

I don't think he'll get a new contract, with Grujic coming in and possibly 1-2 others. Along with the options we currently have in midfield, I can see him being let go. Such a shame because he's been great.

I mean how fast and well he develops and continues to claim his place.
Also whoever else we buy for our midfield (and we'll certainly buy someone).

There has to be room for Allen - he has earned it.

Far too good to let go. I imagine we won't let him leave, anyway. He's exactly what a squad needs, especially now that he seems to have rediscovered his ability to drive forward up the field as well as to calm a game further back when it suits us. And he just looks damn cool these days too.

With Zielinski and Grujic, we will still need experience. Hendo isn't good at passing through the lines continuously. Allen makes Coutinho more effective.
But, if we do sign one more say Zielinski, we have following in midfield - Henderson, Can,Milner,Lucas, Grujic, Stewart, Brannagan, Allen and Allan. That is a lot of midfielders.

He's a catalyst right now. There is more confidence throughout the team when he's on the ball because he won't lose it and create problems and more often than not will play a progressive pass to the forwards.

There was ten second spell when he was up against a Dortmund player in the middle of the park, twisting and turning, looking for an opening to thread the ball through. The opposition player was obviously scared to commit. Eventually Allen, laid it off, moved into space, received it back and passed forward.

I don't want any of our players sold, but using cold hard logic, with new midfielders arriving, Allen's recent performances, Hendo's resale value compared to James Milners and Milner's impressive numbers... our captain is looking vunerable, in my humble opinion.

I wonder what he wants himself. He doesn't get much game time, and he's good enough to start for a lot of PL teams. It's tough to be a squad player.
