Bet this happened because some arse of a lino didn't put his flag up for an offside like they always seem to do when it's City. Virgil is always fuming at them when that happens and he's had to do extra work for nothing!
Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

We're not playing twice a week after this week and he wouldn't play against Wolves anyway.

Also not like we're going for the title here. Might do him some good.

given how things are going at the moment he won't be playing twice a week next year as well

Van Dijk has played pretty much non-stop for 18 months since the start of last season (first international tournament as well I think just gone).

3 games in 6 days just after back from that. His body probably needs the rest from playing. If he'd got through Monday then he'd have sat out Wolves and got a bit of a break then.

Probably not a bad thing in the circumstances, had he been at the top of his games when this came up we'd have been mortified. He's not a player you can drop but Matip and Konate look more reliable at the moment (unless they get shoved from behind)
Time out will do him some good.

Why would you bother unless there was a specific concern?

Cause he's one of our best players, playing for a rich club with access to specialists

I get you. But I also would rather our players see a specialist even for tiny bruises, stubbed toes and coughs and colds

It's all about the recovery pathway and I think a specialist would ascertain that best - it may not be the same as "the injury is so bad we need a specialist"

Seriously I’d be fine with Fab being rotated at CD these days. He seems to need a new challenge because he doesn’t seem motivated to perform the DM role with the gusto like he used to.

He had no problem last season and we nearly won everything. So er let's focused on that Pickford tackle which was over 2 years ago.

Yea as long as matip stays fit, him and konate will be ok. VVD has lost about 20% of that invincibility he had pre injury and I don't think attackers fear him Just as much as they used to. Feel pretty sad actually writing that.

It’s like his appetite hasn’t been the same. I never thought I’d see someone just run past him without challenge like happened at Brentford. There’s a streak of bastard gone from him, we need that Bastard VVD back, more physicality and a do what it takes mentality.
For a player to be good enough to play for Liverpool, he must be prepared to run through a brick wall for me then come out fighting on the other side.

I suspect that might have been the hamstrings though. VVD looked a bit "hamstrung" in that 1v1 vs Mbuemo.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

He hasn't looked 100% all season or even at the world cup and i suspect he's been playing with some discomfort or some issue. His reaction and recovery pace were most prominently affected. Hopefully he takes the time to rest and heal well because he is still in his prime years as a center half and a 100% vvd is worth a dozen goals.

It'll be interesting to see how he's remembered by the wider footballing world when he retires.

Pre injury, he was probably a shoe in for a spot on the all-time greats list. Jordan Prickford stole much more than just the 20/21 season from him.

If city hadn't bought the recent league titles they did he would certainly have been up there with a shout of being in the all time premier league team. May still get there only time will tell but definitely not the same player he was pre injury.

He had that swagger that you just knew you wouldn't get past him try as you may, that's gone to some extent.
Seems to lack focus this season, which can be said for most of the team to be fair.

I hope the break has given him breathing space.

So many of our players have looked like their heads are kettled, I’m hoping the break has brought mental freshness for him (and Bobby and Jota to be fair).
