Liverpool FC Forum / Re: The Title Race 2023/24- Jurgen's Last Dance

Because some of us haven't thrown in the towel

I think we all knew by the Palace game.

I did tell someone at the time if we have freeze framed the table after that game and then shown it to us back in August we'd have got very excited. Level on points at the top, 6 games left, with only GD separating us. Problem was living in the now we could see the constant struggles in every game. Wide open midfield defensively, disjointed, inability to grind out wins. Every game was going to be a rollercoaster, and you dont win leagues that way.

I think had Jurgen stayed one more season he'd have finally got the required 6, the midfield would have been up and running (plus the 8s would be fully accustomed to the team), the team would have looked more complete and would have functioned more like a Klopp team.

I posted this in the match thread but it has got me thinking about this fucker and what else could excuse his antics. Note the word 'excuse' not defend, before anyone says it. It is possible that, having seen Areola get up (eventually, trying to time waste) he waves his arm for play to continue, jogs off back towards the halfway line, then turns around, sees the ball loose in the penalty area and Areola bent over like that. I wonder if Taylor panicked - his prison officer persona kicking in - and thought he'd had some sort of serious issue? He was after all the ref when Eriksen had his cardiac arrest in the last Euros.

Doesn't excuse his pathetic attempt to cover it up though.

You took this thread to another level.

I don’t think it’s a case of waiting 8 months for an economic uptick, I thinks it’s case of waiting 8 months for anything, sending a few people to Rwanda, some dirt on Starmer, anything will do. The issue for the Tories of course is that the boats will still keep coming and if anyone is likely to be found with dirt it’s more likely to be a Tory than anyone else in politics.

Honestly have no idea who you even go for if you’re looking for a defensive mid. Like the look of Palacios at Leverkusen’s numbers but bad injury record.

Does it indicate Jota is a better finisher or is it just the fact that Jota only really attempts the kind of chances that he is very good at. Jota is very much a penalty box striker who likes get into the area and shoot low and hard across the keeper. That is fine if he is just being selective with his opportunities and is providing loads of assists.

Can you, or anyone, tell me what kind of chances Darwin is very good at?

Maybe that’s a good thing? You’ve said in the past you’ve felt like Klopp burned out due to a lack of supporting structure around him at the top, you also said you felt it was integral we returned to something like the past to avoid the same happening to a future manager.

What if those that are running the club have felt that giving the manager/HC that additional responsibility is too demanding on them and potentially impacts how they do their job - or impacts the stress levels that come with the job?

At the end of the day, Slot doesn’t have to agree to working under the structure, so discussing it as a potential issue seems silly if he’s agreeing to come here and work under it. I personally think it’s a positive move and clinging onto English football’s traditional values/titles is pointless, especially when we’re not bringing someone who’s worked in English football.

There are a couple of things firstly one of the big triggers for stress is not having control and the power to do things. Secondly I am actually an advocate of a Sporting Director model. The thing is it is hugely important role and for me Hughes hasn't shown anywhere near enough to be given the role.

Edwards basically made his name by getting big fees for players like Ibe, Smith and Solanke amongst others. The worrying thing is it was his mate Hughes who was buying them. Then you get to him appointing the likes of Scott Parker and Jason Tindall as managers. Hughes has spent a lot of money at Bournemouth relative to the size of the club but he hasn't really made money on many players.
