Horrendous news coming out of Hertfordshire. BBC horse racing commentator John Hunt's wife and 2 daughters have been murdered in their home by a man with a crossbow. Just incomprehensible news.

May they rest in peace.

BBC are saying John Hunt and his family are unhappy with the media naming them before formal identification. Absolutely horrendous news, seems like a nice guy. He presents on Sky Sports Racing and he’s got a friendly face and voice if that makes sense. Hope he gets all the love possible from racing.

Police got him in Enfield. At least the coward didn’t take the ultimate cowards way out.

ITV Racing very somber tone before any racing today. Presenters clearly very emotional, almost tearful

Minutes silence now at Newmarket

Good ride from Buick there. Might have been more there as well didn’t fully go for Ancient Wisdom. Good to see him back in the winners enclosure. Soft is essential for him

Yep you could tell both he and Ed were really struggling but he expressed his thoughts and emotions well.

Fancy anything the next couple of days? Tomorrow looks very difficult although I do like Sun God in the first off a light weight

It’ll be tricky for Running Lion. There’d be a 16lb swing if it was a handicap. A Lilac Rolla is the one I’d like to be on in that race.

Decent couple of days overall. Following Godolphin at this meeting often leads to winners.

One race away from the placepot yesterday with Inisherin really disappointing in the July Cup. Had looked a star after being switched to 6f until then.

One thing I noticed was nearly all the Watnam Racing horses drifted massively and ran terribly which seemed a bit strange, like it was expected?

Not the strongest King George ever tomorrow, but looks like it could be a good race. The 3:15 at York looks decent as well.

The opening event at Newmarket yesterday was won by a Juddmonte sort that would have to be very smart. Tabiti is the horses name. Broke well, went to the front, never headed and then cleared off in the final furlong. For a horse to do that on debut at Newmarket is impressive. Not a good front running track.

That was a weird race, the 2.05, the grey horse handicap, 9 runners and all greys, never seen a race before where one of qualifying rules was that every horse had to be a grey.  :o

Back on Comms was he?

Amazing fortitude to be back at work after what happened. Fair play to the guy. Deserves nothing but an easy life for the rest of his days. Can’t imagine ever getting over something like that.

Perhaps getting back to something he clearly loves will help in some way

I’ll see your Desert Flower and raise you Zarigana who has looked pretty impressive in France so far.

Been some very good 2yo fillies this season (feel I’ve said this before). Really think Fairy Godmother is another destined for the very top. Hopefully we’ll get some good clashes between them next season if they all progress.

Some cracking racing this weekend. Great line up in the Irish Champion. Certainly the acid test for Economics, might have a little go at Los Angeles though, seems too big a price although the trip is a concern.

The Matron looks a really good race too.

Think Believing and Opera Singer have decent chances on Sunday. Also like the Wolf of Badenoch at Donnie tomorrow.

Looked a decent horse. By far the best in the race, not sure how strong those behind are mind. Lope De Vega’s best horses seem to be up to 1m2f so not sure I’d be in a rush to back it for the Arc, but could see it winning either of the Champion Stakes given soft ground, Ascot in particular is usually very soft in October these days.

Edit: Just looked in more detail at the horses behind and it’s possible the first 3 will all prove decent. Think the 3rd horse Sosie has the pedigree for the Arc. Be interested to see if they go for the Grand Prix de Paris with him, would seem the logical next step, although he has already won over 1m3f. Have put a little bit on ew at 33/1 for the Arc. Might not be good enough, might not get there and I also like Ezeliya for it. But 33/1 could look big on the day if he does win something like the GPdP or one of the trials
Ahem  :) ;)

Now the Arc fav. Fingers crossed can do the business, but this year looks quite open

I wondered if the Ascot win might have been one of those two good to be true type results. Fairy Godmother is their best I think. Found no end of trouble and shown an amazing turn off foot to get Moore out of trouble the last two runs

The Arc looks a poor renewal. Real shame Ezeliya didn’t run again thought she might have been the one. Happy with my bet on Sosie but wouldn’t be especially confident as he doesn’t look a superstar although the level of the opposition leaves me hopeful.
