2-1 to Spain - last minute heavily deflected shot. Very hard on Mexico who'd defended deeper in the 2nd half and playing on the counter, with Spain's final ball often letting them down.

Full time 2-1 to Spain.

Full time 3-1 to Uzbekistan vs Greece. 2 men sent off, 3 penalties - looked an eventful game ;)

Is it just wishful thinking or do Spain transform from average with Suso on the bench to brilliant with him on the feild?

Suso was definitely the game changer.

He's a good footballer as well. He's apparently got a very low buyout clause. There are a couple of very big clubs after him, but it's likely that he would just disappear into the woodwork there. Maybe we should try and sign him and offer him guaranteed football, in a good stable environment, with decent money, developing in a top league, and a prospect of european football coming up.

Most important thing in this tournament so far. Dude who just came on for Uruguay was called Jim Varela... his middle name is Morrison. I can smell the Guardian Knowledge reference from here.

Uruguay 2 - Nigeria 1, FT.

I only watched Spain game today. And that mainly to see Delufeu play. I am very disappointed by his play today, and his overall play in the tournament has been erratic as well.

Spain were shite for the most part, but Mexico ran out of gas at some point. Mexico have to blame themselves really, when Spain were shite for large periods of game, they were still negative with 2 banks of four and counters. Counters weren't bad, but they should have scored 2nd.

Regarding Suso, he was better than most, but he also had a lot of unnecessary errors. Bad passes, taking too long on the ball to shoot, poor shooting, dribbling to nowhere. There are very few refined mature players in this tourney, and Suso is not one of them. But he brought some urgency to Spanish midfield.

For Spain, IMO, in this age group, a faster direct game would suit much better. Both Delufeu and Jese are runners, not the classical Silva and Cazorla type wingers. Passing tiki taka game doesn't seem to suit this Spanish team very well.

Agree. He was a tad better but still raw on these things.

Some interesting refereeing decisions in the Uzbecks vs Greece game yesterday - especially on the mistaken identity side of things :)

Today's other Last-16 games:-

Portugal vs Ghana - 4pm ko
Croatia vs Chile - 4pm ko

Columbia vs South Korea - 7pm ko
Iraq vs Paraguay - 7pm ko

All on Eurosport 1 & 2, http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/video/live/information.html and other streams no doubt too ;)

Yes, but in the Clutching at Straws Department, all 3 teams from the group from which the US did not qualify are still in the Quarters. Perhaps that might assuage the despair at our limp and uninspired performances...  :D

Unlucky LuisFalcao mate - seems there's been a few surprises in this tournament.

France vs Uzbekistan & Uruguay vs Spain on the Saturday, with Ghana vs Chile & Iraq vs S Korea on the Sunday - we could well be in for a few more surprises yet...

France Uzbekistan on now.

France are dominating. It seems it's like men against boys. Literally, French are taller, bigger, faster basically more physical. It may end up ugly for Uzbeks.

Most of the French are playing high level first team football as well. Oh, and they're technically superior.

Glad to see they seem to have turned up for the knockouts, especially after Portugal and Nigeria went out.

Slightly better from Uzbekistan but still not good enough. They rush things. Few make runs into the box. They have no chance winning headers in the box, so long balls are pointless.

Spain U20 have dropped the captain Paco Alcacer. Good decision, I think. He hasn't been very good when he was on, and Spain's earlier games were better with Jese up top.

Spain bring on a striker. Finally. They were playing with the false nine crap formation. Nobody in the box.

I am not sure why they subbed Campana though. Delufeu has been woeful.

Ah I get now. Suso is moving to the middle. It makes sense, still 3 in the middle for Spain.
