why not fowler or sami or gary mac for that matter? All had a good career here and seem more in tuned to the club than that judas midget will ever be.

our business sides make some really bewildering decisions.

Even as a player, not many actually warmed up to him i remember. A bit like sturridge now. One reason was that he never seem to have Liverpool in his heart and his interest always seems to lie elsewhere.

Where do Sturridge's interests lie then? Or have I spent too long on here and have started twisting words at will?!

Don't really hold much antipathy for Owen really, look back on his time with some great memories, particularly the FA Cup final vs Arsenal. Even when he joined Man Utd I wasn't that arsed, when you're a free agent and well past your best you don't really say no when an offer like that comes along.

Stupid decision by the club maybe ,

However reactions on here akin to burn the witch or a laughable macho version in of who's got the biggest bollocks contest.

Frankly given what this club has gone through in the past and is still going through this is a nothing story, if you want to act tough choose something that really  matters and not some meaningless role for Owen:

Really who actually gives a shit, all Footballers are mercenaries, everyone of the players on the pitch on Wednesday would move on if offered more money that we pay them.

As was I ;) Sturridge is great and is a laugh as well.

Owen is a monotonous tool and would prefer him not to be working at the club but ultimately not really that fussed about this. It'll be forgotten about in a couple of weeks and rightly so.

He's still playing though.

Hardly gonna jib a Bayern game to go and open a new Standard Chartered bank in Thailand.
Assuming he'd want the job ...... forward planning mate, why make a ridiculous appointment now when a brilliant candidate could be available in 12 months.

Really not arsed about this at all; as long as he doesn't put a good word in for the mancs under his breath, then so what. More bothered about his inarticulacy and lack of vocabulary than his fleeting association with our "acquaintances" down the M62.

When you might consider yourself to be a future ambassador for LFC you think carefully when an offer like that comes along because when accept such a role it is unikely to go down well with the fans of your former club.

He's also
an ambassador and shareholder at Colossus Bets (which is a bit of a con artist company)
an ambassador for football injury insurance company, Shinpad Insurance
a global ambassador for chinese company soccerworld
Asia pacific ambassador for Spey Whisky
an ambassador for Kent & Curwen
a Football Goodwill Ambassador at the Shanghai Fudan Campus
an ambassador for Racing UK

He had a good 6 years for us and grabbed the world's attention in 1998, after that he was pretty ordinary, he certainly knows how to milk it, I suspect he would take just about any job that provides oats for his horses. All in all he's free to do what he wants and I've no problem with that, its the club I worry about, I don't thik he's the face of Liverpool although I remain to be persuaded if his face only appears in asia.

He's a bit like Tony Blair, at one point you thought there might be something there but ultimately you become dismayed as he turns up to just be greedy bastard who will take money off anyone.

Bit sad and pointless to be bitter over Michael Owen. Was baffled that he chose to go to Newcastle in 2005, but it was his prerogative. We won the FA Cup and then got Torres the next summer so we did alright out of it.

Exactly, it's going to completely disrupt our momentum and cause problems in the dressing room...

Wait, it's going to have fuck all effect on anything.

You say that and I agree. But the process of choosing him is the issue. There's still people at the club making decisions that a large majority of the fan base don't get or don't like.

He was one of my childhood idols, I cant say I like him as I used to after all he has said and done, but I will never despise him either. Not the best of decision by the club, but it's a meaningless position, and he will always be remembered for his time and goals here.

Exactly, and I don't want anyone like that at the club. Klopp won't stand for it in his players yet we're willing to allow this boring, self-serving, horrible traitor to have a role when so many others could do it? Ridiculous, worrying decision.

Yeah, you're right mate the bitterness is indeed very sad, I'll never forget what he delivered to us. I suppose people are wondering how the club appraised this decision as being appropriate though - particularly when we don't have limited options.

I don't hate Owen, don't love him either, will cherish all those wonderful memories especially 2001....what gets me is not the club choosing him ( being so corporate now and recognising his international profile) but he had the gall to accept it knowing how he is detested by a substantial amount of the UK fan base. His mam said he would never play for Liverpool again after the stick he took playing at Anfield for Newcastle ( I think)....not against taking money out the club as an ambassador though, eh?

Is this a thread where people show they are the better fan by hating Owen more than the next guy? I saw one post saying the only player worse than Owen was spitter Diouf. This is ridiculous. Owen made some choices I disagreed with, but his best years were in a red shirt and he was the most exciting player of his age. A teenage Vardy, if you like. He never got his pace back after a hamstring injury, and he was soon off to Madrid.

There are so many things to get vexed about, but Owen isn't one of them. But why Owen for this role? Maybe his Liverpool, Madrid, ManU career gives him a profile in International communities that another player could not get near.

Calling him a Judas midget? That sounds like some plastic superfan who would be at home at the 'bridge.

You can having a wonderful happy marriage with someone, special moments shared, a photo album full of memories but when they've cheated on you multiple times and were the one who asked for a divorce its how the relationship was dissolved is how you will ultimately remember that person. I don't care what Owen once did for us, its the selfishness and lack of any thought for the club that makes this role he's been given a total joke.

This appointment has opened my eyes on a few posters here.

I still find it hard to swallow he is employed at any capacity at the club.

A real defining post when he was commentating at utd.

Is there really that many trees that people cant see the fucking wood?

Unbelievable.

When people are suggesting alternatives such as Barnes, Fowler, Garcia etc., do we know if they actually wanted the role, what the job entails exactly, or if the club actually did offer it to others before Owen?

 ;D

The utter bastard legged it from the commentary box into The Stretford End.
Is it really Michael Owen? It does sound like him.

If it is I`m made up that`s the character we picked as an LFC ambassador when 38 days ago he showed his true allegiances.

Let his contract run down so we got a much reduced fee for him, lied to the fans in an interview saying he was signing a new contract and signed for Madrid a couple of days later, went on to play for the Mancs kissing the badge and now shows he`s still a Manc supporter with that clip.

"Wanna be paid to be an LFC ambassador Michael"?

Sound  ;D
