First proper night out in Liverpool tonight after the game. Other than having a few pints in dingy pubs round Kenny with my uncle at Christmas. Been flicking through this thread, going to have to hit up some of those boozers this afternoon.

Interested to see how it stacks up to Newcastle too. Stiff competition.

wipes the floor with newcastle. doesnt everywhere or most places in newcastle shut around 2am? anyway, as i said, maybe biased but a night out in liverpool, especially for someone who is not from here, you'd find it hard to beat outside london.

All the clubs stay open until 3am, the big difference is hardy anywhere stays open until 5/6am. I'm probably biased too but Newc has certainly beat Leeds/Manchester for me. Hope you're right though, been looking forward to tonight for fucking ages.

depends, hard to pinpoint one place, depends on what crowd you're after, if you dont mind being in the middle of a punch up try concert square, most places will be packed, so atmosphere wise you wont fail, try rigbys on dale street, again just depends on what type of gaff you want

It's derby day!

There's not a pub in the city that won't be busy.  Some are more of a red house with mostly reds and some blues, some are blue houses, with mostly blues and some reds.

Most of the town centre pubs and bars will be pretty mixed, so just choose yourself somehere you can get a good spec to watch the game, and if anything kicks off just skidaddle quickly.

There's not usually mutch or any trouble, other than the odd snarler or hot head, but thankfully they're the exception not the norm.

That's the craziest pub ever, think in 10 years it's had about 4 or 5 different names. I remember it as the Old Monk, then think it changed later on to the Baracuda, last time I checked it was called Varsity, I think.

The Old Monk holds the distinction of being the first place I ever bought a bevvy in town, as a fresh faced 16 year old. For that reason I'll always think fondly of the shithole.

Tiz indeed Sir.

As you say, it's had about 5 names in about 10-12 years or so.

I reckon it's all a tax dodge myself.   Changing your name every couple of years.  ;)

It's not the best or worst place to drink in town, just one of those middle of the road bars, thats alright depending on the company you're keeping.

I first got my end away after meeting a young lady in the old monk. Bought her a tropical reef (just like in red lights indicate doors are secure...).

Always in my heart (the old monk, not the scrut I slotted).

This isn't the perfect place for this, but it does seem like the most appropriate thread (short of starting a new topic).

It's the Monday night before Halloween on a Wednesday.  Will people be out wearing costumes (as on Saturday) at bars or not?  In the US they would be, but this is my first Halloween in the UK.

Unless there's a pre planned, and advertised Holloweed party going on, then no.

You might see the odd person(usually girls) dressed up, but very few and far between.

I'm guessing he means don't bother with the fancy dress... it was mainly the weekend just gone. Though Wednesday is student night in Liverpool... everyone will be out in costume... you'd do well to join in I expect.

We're coming to Liverpool the weekend of the 17th for the Wigan game.
As it's our first time over, some info on cosy bars, Irish pubs, ... is very welcome (no clubs).

Thanks.

O'Neill's is the big Irish pub, but Pogue Mahone's on Seel Street is a nicer wee bar.

Shenanigan's is another, but it's a bit dingy.  There are a few others too.  To be honest, there are tonnes of cracking pubs in the city centre.  You'll have as much fun exploring them as you will at the game :D

Heading down to Liverpool for New Year again, staying in the Alicia Hotel doing the NYE package which I thought was brilliant last year. So that's the 31st sorted anyway but any advice or anything on for the 30th/1st? Or just doss around town and a few pubs?

Cheers.

Irish bar is the first thing that I thought of so put it in my post.

A lot will depend on what kind of music or vibe you're after, or if you are just out to drink and enjoy the city.
