Glad that we're getting the correct decisions thanks to VAR, but hopefully it'll be quicker as the referees get used to it.

Took a long time there but I'd expect it to go a lot quicker in most situations and the process will get a lot smoother as time goes on. I wouldn't be surprised if the referees eventually start taking the word of the VAR which would speed things up too.

Not a fan of the delay regardless but if it stops the mancs getting all of those offside decisions and defensive teams getting away with fouls in the box all the time it could be worth it.

This is what I want, gets 3 or 4 replays, if can't be clear enough to overturn then go with ref decision. Keep it simple and speed it up, but right decisions are most important.

At least the time is more likely to be added on, unlike when a goalkeeper takes a minute to take a goal kick.

Even though the right outcome is made it's shit. Takes fucking ages. You've got opposition players who the decision has gone against crowding the ref.

It's just shit

The referee's decision used to be final

Give it 5 years and corner decisions will be going to VAR.

It's got to be all or nothing, preferably nothing.

We would be 3-1 down and wouldn't have been awarded that penalty. Seems to be working okay. The delay and confusion adds it's own drama too.

Terrible. Keeps fucking up the flow, and rewards players for falling over so the VAR sees it. And players keep asking for it at any opportunity too. Get rid, quick.

Doesn't work on the whole. Gonna end up reviewing every goal ever scored.

What should be done is that either the fourth official or a video referee off-site makes the call, rather than the match ref. Works in other sports. Less time wasting, less players moaning while the ref is trying to hear information.

You can see the potential for making sure decisions are correct. But the current format doesn't work - the refs will end up calling for a replay on every goal/incident that anywhere close to contentious to protect themselves.

I'd keep it but put it down to the teams to call for replays - 1-2 challenges a game.

Anyone who lacked the imagination to understand why VAR is a joke really should understand now.

Last minute, Foster saves Van Dijk header and holds onto the ball for over ten seconds. Why can't a video ref count six seconds? Is it beyond his capacity? All this 'technology', and we can't get the most basic and objective of rules to be correctly applied?

In no way an improvement.

If ever a moment summed up the farce that is VAR, it was that (coupled with the check for offsides on Salah's goal). It's incentive for refs to stop calling what they see

The obvious point is that they need to get faster with VAR (the radio and tv both called the penalty correctly within seconds so why isn't the VAR seeing same footage as them?) and not bin it just because it isn't working perfectly, VAR correctly reversed two mistakes today after all.

This isn't new technology. We've had the ability to replay in quick time for decades now, and funnily enough pundits fans players managers referees (whoever) are still unable to consistently call the rules the same way. Pretty fundamental and basic reason being that it's subjective. People are falling for a logical fallacy that 'new' technology being implemented equals progress. It doesn't, it's regression from not great to bad.

To borrow your phrase - the old way of refereeing should be tweaked and improved systematically (and there are some easy marginal gains to start with), "not bin it just because it isn't working perfectly"
