I would like to know how the rivalry started with NF and Leeds. I'm of the knowledge of Leeds being Manc haters. So I always have a soft corner for them. Still I would like to know about the rivalry between us and those 2 clubs.

Not too sure about Leeds, although at a guess I would suggest that Brian Clough may be a factor, as well as the simple fact that the the three clubs were genuine rivals for trophies during the seventies.

As for Forest specifically, did a lot of the ill feeling towards the city (and in turn, the club) not owe much to the miners strike and the fact that Nottingham was the first to end it (scabs etc)?

It could well be that Brian Clough has something to do with it, he managed both clubs but only spent 44 days at Leeds, he was hated by the leeds players.
Leeds, Notts Forest and us were competing for the League title and in those days only one club could qualify, it truly was the champions League, only the champions got to play in it.

Nice info that Vic. Thanks  :wave

Think us and Chelsea under Rafa and Mourinho. Two clubs who had high profile matches - they beat us in the league cup final in March 1978 (Phil Thompson conceding a penalty which wasn't) then knocked us out of the European cup in September. The two managers were chalk and cheese. But we ended their 42-game unbeaten record in league games in December 1978. Great days and a great rivalry. It's still referenced now: "We hate Nottingham Forest..."
Really that would be great to revive such kind of rivalries. Obviously better than facing the likes of Wigan, Bolton and the likes. Things like these makes the game much more interesting to watch.

Good to know there are some non football reasons to add for the rivalry.

I'd love to see Leeds back but Forest can fuck right off.
Now that is intense  :P

Hoddle now the front runner. I hope he get's the job - and Forest get the "big" name they are looking for. Too funny.

I know it doesn't scan as well, but I've never understood why we don't sing "We hate Notts Forest" - that'd really wind them up.

Still hope to see them and Leeds back in the Premier League.

No to Diego, but stability needed first. Hope we can get up before FFP kicks in big time.
FPP only has effect if u qualify for Europe, with the punishment for not standing up to it being you dont get to play in europe(all though some thing tells me UEFA lacks the balls and will to actually issue sanctions against teams). So the new forrest owners can spend as much as they want to get you guys back up,

I just dont see the point of sacking Cotterill to bring in O'Driscoll, all the time they were talking about 'big' name managers to come in I could see what they were trying to do but now it just looks pointless.

Wouldn't surprise me if a few months time O'Driscoll is gone, Forest are hovering near the relegation zone and in reality the club don't have a pot to piss in.

Truth is any manager worth is salt said- "So, I will have total control over all key elements of managing this club" - to which the answer was obviously a clear - no.

Hence - the iconic manager appointment of someone most people have never heard of. Long may they continue there march out of the Championship. It's going to be a while.

All we need is him to appoint Keane as his assistant manager to further the connection with Clough and Forest and to mention he won 2 European Cups there.

Come on now, if he'd won 2 European Cups with Clough he'd have mentioned it at some stage.
