it would certainly be worth looking into the possibility of LFC being self-sustainable.

Fans will clutch at anything right now

There is a press launch for all this tomorrow afternoon in Liverpool city centre. I presume it'll be in Friday's papers then. Oh, and all over RAWK & RAOTL by about 9pm Thursday night too.

any time we need cash for a player we can do a mass whip round!!!!

can just see that on sale in the club shop as a gift idea, instead of sponsor a eleophant at some zoo, contribution to transfer fund instead.

Brilliant Idea, and it can work.  100,000 @ £5000 each  or 50,000 @ £10,000 or 25,000 @ £20,000 and so on. All the drug barons in Liverpool need to hide their money what a great opportunity.

Absolutely, you'd have to elect either a board or a president to make the decisions - it couldn't possibly be run as a democracy. It just wouldn't work.

i put this idea to parry back in the summer of 2006, he never replied. i had thought of making a website for a donation towards a summer transfer with certificates for the donation etc.

also a lotto type draw to see which donator got to be at the press table for the signing

I think that Real Madrid and Barcelona elect a president and its board every 5 years so the fans choose who they think is the best man to move the club onwards for those 5 years. Not sure though!

That is exactly how it works, and it is something that I would be very much supportive of.

You're all mising a trick here.

We could all just put in precisely fuck all, and then all act as guarantors for a £500m loan to buy the club and build the ground.
And we could do a Hamish thing and go and build it ourselves.
The girls could make lemonade and butties while the lads get their hands dirty.

Liverpool FC fans in buy-out sensationJan 30 2008

Liverpool Echo

A NEW group is preparing a plan to buy out Liverpool FC's US owners.

It is understood the group comprises high-profile LFC fans, legal experts and people in senior public positions.

They are believed to be proposing a Continental-style model where fans own a huge stake in major clubs.

The ECHO understands the group plans to raise £500m to buy the club AND finance a new stadium.

I'm worried we're not going to have 70,000 fans willing to pay around £50 to go in the new ground, never mind £7000 to put into the club.

This could work if fans were to register on a website or some format with serious intent.  Then eventually if a major investor wanted to buy the club he do so with the intent of releasing shares to those registered fans via invitation only.

Lets say the buy out amount was 700 million.  Having a major investor put up 357 million (51%) would leave 343 million (49%) divided by 72,000 is 4763 pounds.  Doesn't sound that crazy now does it.

Who's going to approach DIC then ?  :)

It's not such a crazy idea.
Ok, not everybody has £7000 available to buy shares, however the Inland Revenue are willing to give anybody complete tax exemption from any dividends or capital gain up to that level of investment.
Shares could be priced at say £10 each and would be an extremely attractive investment to most fan's.
Particularly, those famous ex Liverpudlians who's attention is attracted back to the city during the 08 celebrations, never mind those who are seriously wealthy Liverpool Fan's like Steve Morgan.
This could well be on!!

This is definitely possible all you would need is one or more major investors to sort out the deal. The rest would be minor share holders (I'm sure you'd get a good few hundred off here alone, such as myself who'd be willing to invest).

And don't forget it would be an investment. So its not like you would be throwing your money away like we do on merchandise.

Chances are for this to work is you'd need more like 300,000 fans paying around a 1000 each.   Or one investor paying 70% and the rest going to fans.  I think if that were to happen the club could never be taken away from the fans.

I'm not actually sure what the percentage is again for sure.
