New job related question...

I applied for a new start I'm really interested in which I know I'm suitably qualified for, I applied through an external site and waited a week and had no acknowledgement from the employer so I saw on their website they had the job advertised there so I re-applied directly.

I didn't get any acknowledgement so I waited a few days and sent a follow up email and eventually got an email reply from one
of the senior staff saying sorry he'd been out of the office and would be in touch. However that was almost 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything since.

There was no closing date on the job application so just wondering would it seem desperate if I again send another email?

It's alright being keen but I don't want to come across as being desperate or to piss someone off by sending another 'gentle reminder'.

Obviously it could well be the case they filled the position already internally or something and they just haven't bothered their arse informing me but it's a fairly specialist role which I'd expect to at least get
a 'thanks but no thanks' style generic let down letter saying I'd been unsuccessful on this occasion etc.

I'm not sure to remain patient and let it go into a third week or send another follow up and if so how I should word it?

Would welcome some advice if anyone's been in a similar position.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

2 weeks is long enough to send another reminder. Can even apologise for sending another but say something like the role really interests you, etc. Most employers won't look down on determination to be employed by them.

Consider calling them. Email is easily ignored. A phone call done right will not only likely get you an answer, it allows you to make a positive impression and sound enthusiastic.

Anybody handy at identifying unusual/fictional languages?

I've got something in front of me that features a range of unusual symbols, including the following:

- things that look like c, x, t, n, o, n, and j
- < and >
- curly w's with a line over the top
- a 'pi' like symbol but with the overhang of the top line on the right only
- what looks like a squared-off little 'r' (and the reverse of this too)

Curiosity has me...

I'd imagine some of the reviews are fake. Some of the reviews as above are just moaning bastards. If you're going 3 star, expect a 3 star. I would generally read them if I'm taking a girl somewhere nice. If it's with the lads on a boozing weekend, I couldn't give a fuck what the place is like. The cheaper the better really.

A couple of temperature questions

If I have a hot drink, how come my mouth or insides don't burn when I drink it, but if I spill some
On my skin, it will scald me?

Also, if the air temperature is 25 degrees Celsius for example, I feel warm,  it if I have a bath and the water is 25 degrees, it feels cold.
Can anyone me explain this?

You shouldn't drink scalding drinks.

The core temperature of your body is greater than ambient air temperature, usually around 35-37c. When you get into a bath that is lower than the temperature of your body it will feel cold and you will get hypothermia if you stay in it for too long.(depending how cold)

By that logic, swimming pools are a hypothermia risk too. The body produces heat and can stand temperatures below body temperature for quite a while. I doubt you'd get hypothermia from anything below, say, 20 C.

By the time you drink coffee it has been cooled quite a bit. Slurping the coffee breaks it down into smaller clumps each of which is more cooled by the action of air. Add in the cooling effect of milk and it can be quite a few degrees cooler than straight from the kettle.

Generally you burn yourself at the kettle stage. You can burn your mouth with hot coffee. I take mine black, and I have done it. It bloody hurts.

Water conducts heat far better than air, so the water from the pool sucks more heat out of your body.

Large swimming pools feel cold unless you move - the temperature is set so that swimming is confortable and you don't feel to hot despite the physical activity.

Sue you.

Super. You might just be the man to help with the next question. If someone from Ireland is driving in Northern Ireland, and they don't tell their insurer, are they still insured?

They are insured through AA down south. On the AA website it states

Quote
Can I drive abroad with my AA Car Insurance?

Please notify us before availing of policy cover abroad to ensure the correct level of cover applies.

AA Car Insurance provides the same cover as you currently have in any EU country for up to 60 days in a year. So as a comprehensive AA Motor policyholder, you have comprehensive cover when you drive within the EU.

So is she still covered, even if she didn't notify them?

I'm not trying to get out of paying as such, but she's ripping the piss out of it. I need a new bonnet and slam panel for my car, and so far it's cost me £125 for both. Just need to get them fitted now which is £200. So £335 to replace a bonnet and slam panel including labour. She's looking €600 to repair a small, no more than 10cm, dent in her rear bumper.

Super. You might just be the man to help with the next question. If someone from Ireland is driving in Northern Ireland, and they don't tell their insurer, are they still insured?

You would really have to see the policy held by the person to be certain, but I would guess yes.

Being uninsured doesn't affect your rights as against someone else. However, if they are uninsured, they may not want the matter coming to the attention of the police, e.g. reporting the accident.

Tell her you feel she is being over charged, and you want her to get a 2nd and 3rd quote to provide you. Make sure you see proper copies of the quotes from the companies. Could say if not you'll have to let your insurance company deal with it and would need to fill out a police accident report so she'll need to provide her insurance details - might persuade her to be more realistic with what she wants if she was driving without insurance.

If she is going to sue you for the amount then she'd have to provide proof that is what she paid. So if she's pulling a fast one then no chance she can sue.
