Fox News broke the UK's broadcasting rules

Two Fox News broadcasts in the UK have been found in breach of Ofcom rules over impartiality.

A January edition of the Hannity programme discussed US President Donald Trump's ban restricting travel from seven majority-Muslim countries.

Ofcom said the US-made show was largely pro-Trump and did not sufficiently reflect alternative viewpoints.

Tucker Carlson Tonight was also found in breach for a broadcast in May following the Manchester terror attack.

Who knows, maybe he's just a decent bloke who's pissed off that the company he works for has become a sort of Pravda-lite for a comically awful president? Or, as Red Beret says above, maybe he's on the way out so just doesn't care any more.

I'm a bit intrigued to see how long Murdoch remains at the helm and what happens to Fox when his kids take over, seeing as rumour has it that they aren't quite as rabidly conservative as their old feller. I think Fox could actually be a force for great good in the world if they subtly steer the general tone of their coverage leftwards of where it is now, given how powerful I believe they are at shaping opinion for the conservatives in America. They'd have to be clever about it though, too much too soon and the idiot racists and rednecks would just jump ship and fuck off to somewhere even worse, like Breitbart. Of course, Murdoch's kids may well decide that they're just making too much money to risk shifting Fox's position, but you never know.

I listened to the latest Trumpcast, which discussed a correspondent binge-watching Fox News. He said that Shep was the only decent watch on the channel. He said some others were essentially good people and journalists, but they are heavily out-weighed by the crowing Trump/GOP sycophants and propangandists. He also suggested that Fox has moved to the right because they see a market threat from the Breitbart/Alex Jones`s of that world. Perhaps they likes of Shep are reacting to that move?

That was quick.

Fox News presenter Sean Hannity was last night forced into one of the most abrupt U-turns in TV history after scoffing at a New York Times report that Donald Trump tried to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller last June.

“They’re trying to change the story. At this hour, The New York Times is trying to distract you,” he ranted to viewers.

“And our sources, and I’ve checked in with many of them, they’re not confirming that tonight.”

“And the President’s attorney dismissed the story, and says, ‘Nope, no comment. We’re not going there.’ And how many times has The New York Times and others gotten it wrong?”

Two hours and some apparent fact-checking later, Hannity was forced to drastically change his tune.

“All right, so we have sources tonight just confirming ... that yeah, maybe Donald Trump wanted to fire the special counsel for a conflict,” he said.

Hannity then conducted a compete moral about-face, asking: “Does he not have the right to raise those questions?”

He then appeared to give up entirely, saying: “You know, we’ll deal with this tomorrow night.”

Then he cut to a car chase.

Ralph Peters quits Fox News ‘propaganda machine’ with epic rant affirming the Steele dossier


A retired military intelligence expert who specialized in the Soviet Union has quit his job as a Fox News contributor over the shame he feels being associated with the network.

Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (US Army, ret.) denounced Fox News in an email to colleagues, which was obtained by Buzzfeed.

“Four decades ago, I took an oath as a newly commissioned officer. I swore to ‘support and defend the Constitution,’ and that oath did not expire when I took off my uniform,” he reminded. “Today, I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers.”

“Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association,” Peters noted. “Now I am ashamed.”

“In my view, Fox has degenerated from providing a legitimate and much-needed outlet for conservative voices to a mere propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration,” he continued. “When prime-time hosts–who have never served our country in any capacity–dismiss facts and empirical reality to launch profoundly dishonest assaults on the FBI, the Justice Department, the courts, the intelligence community (in which I served) and, not least, a model public servant and genuine war hero such as Robert Mueller–all the while scaremongering with lurid warnings of ‘deep-state’ machinations– I cannot be part of the same organization, even at a remove.”

“To me, Fox News is now wittingly harming our system of government for profit,” he concluded.

The former Foreign Area Officer also referenced his specialization in the former Soviet Union.

“As an intelligence professional, I can tell you that the Steele dossier rings true–that’s how the Russians do things,” he noted. “The result is that we have an American president who is terrified of his counterpart in Moscow.”

Being partisan is one thing; so is being conservative.  But when your top guy gets caught red handed as having a vested interest in orchestrating what amounts to a smear campaign? 

Of course, FOX has no integrity and whatever credibility it has with its viewership wont take much of a hit, but they can't sweep this under the carpet either.  It's made them look very foolish because they were trying so hard to discredit Mueller.

I don't know what the consequences of this might be but there should be some.  They might have to dial back the criticism to something more muted; the GOP house and senate members who were only too happy to parade the cameras might also be feeling a tad embarrassed by this association.  Plus, there's the advertisers...

FOX are standing by Hannity it seems, at least for the time being, but he's catching a lot of flak.  It's hard to push your agenda when you get caught up in a corruption scandal.  Hannity's take on Mueller, Cohen etc wont be taken seriously now.

I doubt anyone who watches Hannity will care that he's involved. They'll believe any shit that is spewed out. Same with Trump, once you listen to the man and start nodding along with whatever he says, no amount of rational opposite debate will puncture what you believe to be true.
