Rival Football Fans - Are we all that different
« on: May 18, 2009, 08:44:15 am »
I know being rivals means instant dislike, even from some hatred.

But do you not just see each teams fans, making the same comments about each other but with perhaps some particular names and slurs.

Are we all that much different ?

Are Spurs fans all that different from those of Arsenal, Are Liverpool fans all that much different from Everton or United fans.

Aren't we all very similar, joined to our particular club and dishing out the stereotypical insults to our rivals which we've been groomed over the years to do.

There are real philosophical differences between fans. Some teams' support has more class than others.

Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Scientologists, Catholics, David Icke. They'll all the same really, they all follow a religion.

I hope that is meant sarcastically. The percentages might be different but every set of fans has some complete scumbag knobheads and some genuinely decent people. We're not all that different as groups of fans but we're certainly not all the same on an indvidual level.

I don't think there is a great deal of difference really.  I think if you start supporting a certain team at a young age, you become ingrained in the ways of the that team and support.

I think fundamentally the vast majority of fans are the same.

I certainly don't subscribe to one set of fans being any worse or better than another.  Perhaps there are some exceptions but very few.

I suppose 'non-football' people look at us as 'all the same'... In a that context... we are.

I'm actually Cumbrian.  Just live in Chicago.  Well for the next month.  After 6 great years I'm returning back to mother England.

Should be a full time Brit as of July.  And can't wait to get back to Anfield on a regular basis.

Hope me mates  can still get me tickets. :)

More facetious, than sarcastic. Ultimately you can categorise all football fans as human (biologically at least). But, ultimately saying all fans are human is trivially true and does not offer any great insight - hence a ripe target for reductio ad absurdam.
