I think you're projecting. I don't think it's been much of a distraction for the other players even though they feel for Luis. They are mentally strong and professionals.

We'll go out and win 3-2.

Have you actually been watching this Liverpool side these last 3-4 seasons?

Feel we'll lose (and look poorly at that) for the exact opposite reasons.  0-2 or 1-2.  Hope I'm wrong though.

On another note...  Am glad to get another look @ Sissoko.  Followed him (and Capoue) @ Toulouse.  Always thought he would be immense for us.  Would gladly take him (or even West Ham's Diamé) in a straight-up swap for Carroll.

Not expecting a win, type of game I expect us to lose, really.

Sturridge, Downing and Coutinho then.
Pretty happy with Arse taking it.

Disappointing.

Really looking forward to how we play without Suarez. For the world class player he is he can lose possession too much especially away from home. So with Sturridge up there the ball should stick better but he'll just be laying balls off and it'll be down to Coutinho and Downing to make some things happen without Suarez taking defenders out of position with a run or out of the game with a dribble. Hopefully it'll work out.

Hope Borini shows a glimmer if hope to justify his transfer fee. :wanker

Nice smiley, applies to you perfectly infact.

He just got back from another long term injury, he'll be rusty as fuck. Give him a break, and while you're at it, have a pint and get a grip.

He's in the matchday squad for Newcastle. May well make the bench.

My feeling exactly. Will be interesting to see how we play with a proper striker. I think Rodgers' system has been crying out for a true #9 since he got here. As great as Suarez can be, his movement both on and off the ball is not ideal for the way we play.

I love the way Sturridge gets on the end of build up play. I think having him extend the defense will make our mid fielders and wingers all play better.

Suso, Sterling and Borini back in the squad for this one. I would like to see us change things around slightly than go with the same team as the past few weeks although that has been down to a lack of options.

I expect us to dominate and lose 2-1. Sturridge will pick up an injury that will keep him out of the derby. Same shit, different day.

  • Form is temporary, class is permanent.
Can we smuggle out Tiote whilst we are in the area?

Well, that suggestion went down well...

I'm not saying he is the new Messi, just think he is an excellent defensive midfielder in the Masch mould who would shore up our leaky defense/midfield and provide another alternative to Lucas. He was linked with a Ł20m move to Chelsea before his injury, so I doubt he is "shit".

On the match, can't see us getting a win but hopefully a good performance and a point.

The week surely can't get any worse. There has to be a limit for everything. I reckon our lads will ifght bravely against the barcodes who will be fighting for their lives themselves. Gerrard will pull us through as he has done all along his career. 3-1 victory for the redmen with all the goals coming late in 2nd half.

We can expect plenty of boos and taunts, the full pantomime from this lot at theirs. Truth is though, we have had a good rallying of our players when we have had our Louis on the ban before. it should focus them and if they have anything about them at all, they will want to step up today. We are more the form team than the barcodes in this one. I would love to see us help them sweat about the drop again. I bet Enrique will be well up for this and will not share Sturridges reluctance to celebrate if he gets one in. I also expect Sturridge to have a big game, he must see this as an opportunity to really shine.

Oh my, that would 100% happen as well. Just remember the Suarez celebration vs Mansfield, and that's someone who has scored and done the celebration more than once. On ESPN too, with Champion commentating.

This is not particularly a reaction to your comment personally, but why do people come into the pre-match thread to post superstitious, pessimistic shit that gets peoples' backs up? Keep your ill-feeling to yourself.

Newcastle will play the Pardew way, which is in fact the Allardyce way. They'll give it to Cabaye, who'll resist his natural instincts to get it down and play (as per Pardew's instructions) and lump it up to a lump; Ameobi. Should Ameobi not be on the field, they'll consistently attempt to hit Cisse and hope he can score a spectacular goal or get a knock down for someone to run on to. This team last season was good in spite of Pardew. This year they're bad because of him. Awful team with a handful of good players.

Sturridge playing off the last man, with Shelvey or Coutinho behind threading him through please.

Sturridge might actually be easier for us to exploit his strengths leading the line.  Gerrard obviously fantastic at playing it through too.

One worry is how clinical we will be, think Danny will have a few chances tonight.

Coutinho hopefully. As much as Shelvey needs first team experience, he seems to have wound himself up no end and has become a bit of a liability when he plays. Sub appearances for the remainder of the games and then a PL loan next season please. I actually want to see Assaidi with some involvement, Newcastle have a back four of clumsy challengers around fleet-footed forwards. A front three of Sturridge, Assaidi and Coutinho has all the pace and trickery that could bamboozle oafs such as James Trout and Mike Williamson.

Would like to see Assaidi, Sterling, and/or Suso feature at some point in the match. They all offer something a little bit different, a little bit unpredictable, a touch of flair that could cover up for the fact that we're missing our El Pistolero. Thank god we brought in Sturridge and Coutinho and they've hit the ground running. It'll be interesting to see the dynamic without Luis to grease the cogs along.
