Saw that goal, brilliant finish. Hopefully he makes a nice career for himself at Union who clearly had enough faith in him to paid a club-record fee for him.

Union are playing their Europa conference league play-off today, and Taiwo has got 2 goals so far. They are playing KuPS in Helsinki.

KuPs?

Is there a sitting down bonus? Saucer card? What if they draw the full cup - automatic win?

Really nice to see him find a permanent home, first player for Union to score on the first three matches of a Bundesliga season. Him and Kruse are forming a magnificent partnership.

don’t think he did play, they couldn’t get him a work permit for the majority of his time here.

If he carries on impressing, then you can guarantee the next level up of Buli teams will be after him. Union are doing well for themselves of course, but they are still one of the smallest Buli clubs along with the likes of Arminia Bielefeld, Mainz 05 and Greuther Fürth. So there’s a fair few clubs who could be sniffing around soon enough!

If he keeps banging them in I would not be surprised to see Leverkusen make a play for him should Schick leave at season’s end.

Another 2 today.
Both the same goal pretty much, using good strength and his pace and finishing well.

If he carries on like this, Union will be getting some very good offers for him.

Did he qualify for a work permit by the time he was sold? I've not seen a second of him but checked wiki and he had a couple of double figure goal seasons in Belgiums top league. Seems like he pretty decent at putting the ball in the net. Long may it continue for him

Not only that but he opens up space for his teammates, him and Kruse are carving up teams. Hope he keeps it up, really good to see him doing well.

He got his work permit a little while before we sold him iirc.

He's a good striker, whether he's the level we need remains to be seen but there has been hype around him for quite some time. Hope he has a really good career, he seems a nice enough lad and determined to do well. Strong quick lad and he can finish, obviously still a lot of room for improvement but he's putting up really good numbers and I think it no longer being a loan is helping him to be honest, he kept stating how he wanted to be settled

I think if he was homegrown we may well have kept him but we had an over supply of non-homegrown players and needed to shift some.

As it turned out we didn't sign anyone and had a spare non-homegrown place at the end of the summer so could have gave him a chance this season in the squad had we wanted.

How many games would he have got here though? I can see why a move was attractive to him.

You can see why he'd move on. If he was homegrown we may have been more eager to either keep him or get better money at least, it seemed a good fee at the time, but looks a bargain now.

I love Fromola’s dedication to turning as many threads as possible into how Liverpool messed something up by not signing anyone, or in this case, by dreaming of what might have been had they not sold someone  ;D

Awoniyi has had about 294 loan moves in 5 years, he was desperate to be able to settle at a club and play regularly. He would have probobably played a couple games and 1 or 2 sub appereances here if lucky.

10 goals in 14 matches and made his Nigerian debut during the break, so happy that he’s found a club where he can play regularly and flourish.

Was a great finish with his weaker foot from outside the box, he’s scoring all types of goals this season.

Maybe we sold him a season too early. If we'd loaned him out again this season, we'd have been looking at £20m+ for him next summer after the terrific start he's had to the season.

Only risk is that a loan player, usually, does not get the same treatment in terms of minutes and position within the teams hierarchy to be allowed to flourish the way Awoniyi has this year.

He may have done anyway, but I think this level of performance comes from being treated as a key part of the team, not just now but for future years.

this is the thing, if he wasn’t sold, who knows where he’d have gone on loan and how he’d have done. Maybe Union would have moved onto the next target as they where keen to get a signing done.

It will be interesting to see how he does over the season, he was a regular starter last seaon at Union, and he had a purple patch where he scored all his goals, then didn’t score for the rest of the season - and also suffered an injury that kept him out a few weeks. This is why their fans where nervous about paying what was for their club a huge fee.  But now of course, they are happy with how things are going so far. If he keeps this up all season, then yes, there will be a couple clubs sniffing around!

Frustrating when we ended up getting nobody in, so we didn't need the money or the non-homegrown slot in the end.

The thing is, he’s doing great but he’s getting the minutes to perform which is great for him but I don’t think it would really translate here. It’s hard to play your way into form with the odd cup game and 10-15 minutes or less here and there, especially as a striker

knew theres a decent player in him somewhere once he settled down.

hope edwards include some sell on clause for him. Think he could go for some decent amount when he decides to step up to a bigger club.
