Right, where shall we go then?
« on: May 12, 2014, 01:59:25 pm »
Rubbing my hands with glee at the prospect of European nights again, whether late at night on the TV or, with a bit of luck, somewhere in Europe...

Where would you like to go in 2014-1015?  No idea of what the European coefficients are at the moment so these might not all be possible.

A trip to Naples, while dangerous, would be quite something.

Madrid, against either of their teams, any time.

Barca again, bring it on, I'll pack my golf club.

Monaco in Grand Prix week?

Munchen town during Oktoberfest, oh yes please.

Bring. It. On.

You can fuck Naples off mate, wouldn't go back there if someone paid for my trip.

Any of the German teams would be nice, and a really hot one somewhere, like Nicosia if they qualify?

Just reading about some of your trips in the other thread mate. Looks like you've been everywhere.

Selfishly cause it's a bit nearer to where I am at the moment I was hoping for Russia or Ukraine - but I'm having a rethink, Donetsk might be a bit moody.
Like Raul, I think  Munich would be boss. As would any of the German cities and I've always wanted to go to Sevilla, preferably on the fast train.

A trip to Naples, while dangerous, would be quite something.

A trip to Naples would be sh*te.

Did the trip in October 2010 and the Italian police treated us like animals.  We were hearded onto packed buses to go to the stadium and driven around the perimeter of Naples for a full 90 minutes - even though straight there would be 20 min max.  Hot and cramped - at one point they parked us up on the motorway & wouldn't let us off the bus - it was just containment in the most uncomfortable conditions.  We were subjected to the same going back after the match.  Packed into a bus with most of us standing for 90 mins.  They dropped us off at the port area at nearly midnight - supposedly for our safety.  There were no taxis and a 40 min walk from the port to the centre of Naples.  As we walked up the road in the dark - no pavement most of the way - the Napoli supporters drove past on mopeds with bats delivering blows where they could.  Eventually got back to the hotel - starving - no food available to eat there.  Asked at reception where I could go to eat and was advised not to bother going anywhere due to likelihood of being assaulted.

Won't go back to Naples.
Luck favours the brave, but not the stupid.

1. PSG, 2. Roma/Ajax, 3. Liverpool, 4. Grasshoppers Zurich/Sparta Prague (in qualifying rounds)

Surely the best group?

Paris, Rome/Amsterdam, Zurich/Prague.

Be happy if we got them. In fact, I'd be straight on the Easyjet website as kavah says.

Went to the old San Mames stadium for a Liga match a few years ago (they've built a new one next door now and knocked the old one down) and it was very atmospheric. Don't know if the new one has the same feeling yet, be hard to match it, but I'm sure they still create a cracking atmosphere.

And the city is really good. Beautiful old town and very hospitable locals.

One end of there new stadium has been boarded off all season, that can't of helped, i presume building has been on going behind it, so may be ready to be opened for next season?

When I went to barca we got 5k tickets which from memory went to general sale.  Do any other clubs give such large allocations?

Edit : it didnt go to general, it went to ballot.

Manchester United could win fifty titles, but they will always be the Rolling Stones of football. Good, just not quite that band from Liverpool.

Would love Munich, Barca, Madrid. In fact any Spanish city as I've only really been to a couple of places in Spain and it would be an excuse to go. Not arsed about Paris but would still be boss to paint the place red. Always fancied going to Amsterdam to watch us play Ajax - that would be a good couple of days. I'm sure there'll be a couple of brilliant trips in store for us at least. Really excited.

As it stands at present there will be 4 pots for the Champions League Group Stage draw. We are in pot 3. So we will be drawn against one team from each of the other pots. We cannot be drawn against teams from the same Country. So potentially we could be drawn against Pot 1 Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Benfica or Atletico Madrid. Pot 2  F C Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Paris St Germain,  Shakhtar Donetsk or Basel 1983. Pot 4 A S Roma or Monaco. The rest of the places are still to be decided via qualifying Rounds.

So my preference at present would be Bayern Munich, Shakhtar Donetsk ( If we would be allowed to play in Ukraine ) and Monaco.

I'd guess that they will use history from the last Europa aways, then general. So a good chance for general for the first match probably. Not such a good chance if they were to go back to Champions league history tho.

Who knows with our ticket office but has to go back to some sort of loyalty as a free for all would be crazy. Although not very big numbers went to the last few Europa aways. Maybe have to go back to Utrecht to even a half decent turn out.

Yeah, I was wondering this. My only Europa away was Young Boys, so I'm hoping it'll go down to something like any one of those games in that season.  There were so few at Young Boys though, maybe only a few hundred, surely no more than a thousand.

If it's done from Europa aways from a couple of seasons ago, as it should, then everyone with at least 1 will be fine for the Champions League aways.

Most we took to any of the games that year was Udinese and there cant have been more than 1,000 there that night so should be fine with at least 1 away.

My ideal group would be Porto (nice few days in hot country and never been Portugal), Dortmund as the fans and team are class and my dad went the final in 2001 and said the place was amazing and then probably Celtic as the fans are great and would be good to have a group with YNWA alone at each match  ;)

I agree with Dortmund, that would be class! We can't get Celtic in the groups because we can't be drawn against British teams.

Na that's just English teams, we can get Celtic as arsenal had them in a qualifying round a few years ago and we had hearts in Europa.

We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.
