Got a lot to learn from Trippier...
I've not been able to take Trippier seriously since he took himself off in the last five minutes of a World Cup semi-final, leaving his team to play out the defining moments of the game with 10 men.  Then turned out he was fine to play in the third placed playoff game a few days later  ::)

Southgate falling into the trap that every England manager does of getting too close to their favourites.

Anyway, if Brighton's first goal was a deliberate shot then Trent's second assist was a deliberate pass.  His defending was also top draw against a talented forward line.

Yeah, I feel like even when we get a clean sheet and he has a superb defensive performance people just prattle on about how great he is "going forward" but not as good a defender as X Y Z (other right backs). You can predict the commentary verbatim 10 minutes beforehand. It's gotten really boring and stupid.

Trent isn't a great 'defender' but he also isn't as bad as the weird reputation he has. One of the best players in the world, greatest managers in football  gets it, Southgate doesn't, all I can do is shrug.  People went mental about Beckham, he's got better delivery from a moving ball.

Read some ridiculous stat somewhere that his expected assists for this season so far is even higher than usual. It's absolutely crazy what a creative force he can be. I'm kinda glad that Southgate doesn't see it, because we can keep him rested for our games rather than play pointless England games.

Got a Man City family friend who's adamant that they're not assists as it's just him kicking the ball into a space and then someone scores. In his opinion they're not KDB type passes that cut through defensive lines.

Can't tell some people.
And all the world is football shaped, It's just for me to kick in space. And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste.

It's as if he expects Trent to blast it at our players and it'll deflect of their heads and into the top corner

As soon as they piled 3 players onto Salah and left Trent in loads of space I could see a big opportunity coming. Mad from Atletico to let this guy have time to pick a cross.

I've noticed a trend this season of him coming in central when we got 2-0 up. He was doing it a lot when Thiago came on last night. I have to say I prefer him wide and I think Salah gets more space when he stays wide. Wonder if that's planned or just him wanting to be involved more when we are in possession
We already have shit in the country, and the game of Liverpool fills life with joy. Thanks

All this 'Yeah but he can't defend' bollocks is just that, bollocks.  There are better 'defensive' right backs than Trent, but he's still more than competent at that aspect of the game and with what else he gives you, well it's just absurd that he isn't one of the first names on the England team sheet.  Luckily for us, England have an insurance salesman as manager.  A proper attacking side would play him every game.

On his own he is defensively sound. He then has Fab in front of him as the best DM in the world and Hendo as good as you can get, he has VVD and Matip beside him as the best CB partnership and then the small matter of Allison in nets. Compare that to what he has at England, Short Arms in nets(always has a mistake), Slab head and say Stones,  hmmmmmm, then Declan Rice and Phillips, not in the same league as our men. Coupled with a manager who believes in everything you offer and not afraid of what you can do you can see why he is as good as he is. Southgate is a coward of a manager who is afraid to lose as opposed to driving to win. We have the best RB in the world and fuck anyone who is afraid of that.

He is more than capable of playing the role Thiago played for us last night and I would probably find him playing better than some of our current midfielders. It wouldn’t be alien to him but that means we would have taken off the best right back in the world to play in midfield.

That is one of the biggest myths in football, alongside the ones about Martial and Pogba being 2 fantastic players. Trent is as good defensively as any right back in the game. The stats prove that. Both individually and as a team unit that he is part of. He beats everyone when it comes to the numbers. Why these so called expert pundits cant see that or are loo lazy to is poor form from them. Its just decided in the world of media that he cant defend is the line that has to be thrown at him.  The, I dunno what you would call it, slightly important aspect of this is that Klopp wants him to attack, so its physically impossible that he will can be in position all of the time to defend. How that translates to he cant defend is bizarre. He had no problem defending against Messi, Neymar, Sterling etc when asked to in certain games.
It's negativity from people in the media that's all. Try to find something negative and stick to it. Best full back in the world and he is getting better and better.

Or last night when at one point Joăo Felix decided to do a mazy run into the penalty area around Trent and the commentators on the stream I was watching were prepared to gush about him and write Trent's obituaries...

...except Trent calmly stepped in, took the ball away and sauntered off like he was strolling back from the paper shop, leaving both Felix and the commentators scrambling about.

Good opportunity for him to finally prove he's at a similar level to Kieran Trippier and Reece James, what with the brilliant Kyle Walker out. Big pressure too with Wan-Bissaka just behind him in the pecking order.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Trippier is probably still feeling the affects of that Jota overhead kick which missed him by about 3 inches.
