He is pretty amazing, isn't he? He is a class bowler who is probably our most crucial player. Although Siraj has improved considerably, none of our fast bowlers come anywhere near Bumrah's quality.

I think Shami is pretty good as well. His average is pretty good. Unfortunate to find himself on the bench in ODIs.

Good to see Cameron Green is a multi formatted cricketer - stinking out ODI cricket too.

What is gorm by the way? And why is it a good thing to possess? Can someone be gormful?

I was going to say Australia taking it back to the 1970s with that run rate. Then saw this stat. What a thriller that innings must have been!

“Andy Zaltzman has been in touch. This could be the first time a team bat all their overs and don't reach 200 since Kenya v Canada in 2011. The last time Australia batted their full overs without reaching 200 was in 1979, when they made 159-9 off 60 overs against England.”

I love the word.

No idea what a gorm is or whether it even is anything. To add to the mystery I'm sure I've seen it spelt 'gaumless' too.

Delighted for him. People wanted him out of the team, but he's bounced back wonderfully. A genuinely nice guy by all accounts, so happy to see good things happen for him.

As Will Australia in fairness. 30 overs of Starc; Cummins and Hazlewood in anything other than a flat deck won’t be a lot of fun.

Pretty ordinary total by the Black Caps. Dutch bowled well and the pitch is holding up some.

6 weeks this is going on for, with almost all days having just 1 game.

Why not do two games a day to speed it up?

It already feels like a drag.

A Tory, a worker and an immigrant are sat round a table. There's a plate of 10 biscuits in the middle. The Tory takes 9 then turns to the worker and says "that immigrant is trying to steal your biscuit"

YeH I’m struggling. Sure I felt more engaged in 2019 which might just make me a glory hunter! But too often games are done and dusted a long way out. And yeah, guess we could play two games a day, it’s not like rugby in terms of how long players need between games. Although there’s a lot of travel involved obviously.

I think the Indian public agree with you. Another mostly empty ground.

Anyway. Much better start from England today. We need a big win today.

6 and a half! it is far too long.

this looks like a decent start today. stating the obviously to say that if england have any intentions of doing well in this tournament then this is a must win game.

I always think you look to get a good total with  20 overs remaining so you can attack like a T20 for remainder.

The old saying used to be you should be doubling your 30 over score but not sure how much that applied nowadays.

From this start and with wickets in hand England should be looking to get up close to 400 today I think.

Good start. Hopefully can push in with firepower to come. I see we’ve dropped Moeen for Topley so only one main spinner. Guess Livingstone will bowl a fair few. Don’t think we need to think about net run rate just yet. Just win our next couple and it should take care of itself.

Malan really going for it now.

I think Strauss has the record for highest ODI score (158) in a WC for England against India in Bengaluru. If he is there at the end Stokes' 182 is on the cards.

Highest ODI WC scores if anyone is interested - https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/trophy/batting-most-runs-innings/world-cup-12

Oddly enough I think that 30 over thing does still pretty much apply. Depends on wickets though obviously.

Had tms on they way to the office this morning and agnew was on about sandy skidmarks. Bit much for so early.

This is a good base for 400 now.

You can still pick up singles as long as you are intelligent with boundaries.

Teams these days, if they have wickets in hand, play the last 20 like a T20. So they seek up to 10 runs per over.

Shows why Malan and Root are both needed over here. They seem to be able to score at a good rate whatever the surface when others can find it harder to time it.
