Listening to The Secret History of The Future at the moment.

It's a joint collaboration between The Economist and Slate and takes a look at today's technological developments, comparing them to the past in order to analyse how we might react and adapt to the changes.

As an example, an episode I just listening to this morning discussed autonomous vehicles and the first death caused by one last year in the USA. The presenters drew parallels to the first person killed by a motorcar in the 1890's and what it led to with respect to better rules of the road being drawn up and the eventual 'take over' of cars over our streets.

And most interestingly or more saliently, the prediction that automated cars won't necessarily be a flexible convenient mode of transport but perhaps a typically human selfish impact on congestion as people drive to work, send the cars home, then summons it back at 5.00 to collect them  ;D

Also can someone recommend which 'Atletico Mince' to listen too ? (as there are loads of them)  8)   keep seeing Peter Beardsley quoted... Ta  :wave
I didn't like Atletico when I first came across it.
A couple of weeks ago a mate persuaded me to have another go starting at ep54. Beardsley and the South Africans feature. Fucking hilarious. I had trouble not running to the jokes that are so bad they're good thread and quoting the whole lot.

It has weird lulls where not a lot happens and then get to Bob’s stories and features and they’re almost always hilarious. Think I’d laugh listening to him read out the phone book.

CrimeTown is great, season 1 is about the mob in Providence RI in the 70s and 80s. Candid interviews with guys who have done decades in prison for multiple murders, just listening to their voices, plus the boss music, it's like being plunged into a Scorsese movie.

Shame season 2 is on Spotify, given it's so fundamentally rubbish as a podcast platform.

Finished Dirty John last week.

Enjoyable but not the thriller I was expecting.

I see the tv series went out in America two days ago. The cast looks pretty decent. Has anyone seen it??

Any other podcast recommendations? I have done Serial/Undisclosed/Teachers Pet/Dirty John/West Cork etc..

Okay, here a couple of true crime ones you might now have given a go. There was a real spate after Serial, but none come close to season one of that. Accused and Convicted. Another one I haven't listened to much that's in my library is Casefile. Some more along the lines of Dirty John/S-Town are Dr. Death and Gladiator:Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc, as in they're done by professional journalists. For more light-hearted true crime, there is My Favourite Murder and All Killa No Filla. Oh, and if you haven't listened to it, Criminal is a good listen that covers all sorts.

Hopefully there is something in there you haven't listened to :P

Thank you!

I have listened to a few of those Casefile ones and they are good. But the Adnan Syed consumed my life for about 18 months, so I just hammered Serial/Undisclosed/Truth & Justice podcasts and missed some of those!

Cheers :)

Josh Clark's 'End of the World' is a really fascinating series about existential threats. So far looking at physics, biological agents, nanotech, AI etc.

Also, catching up on a few Joe Rogan epsiodes. Roseanne Barr and Tyson Fury were two notable chats, very sobering.

Finally, this weeks Atletico Mince. The whole Roy Hodgson 'Warhammer' section was genuinely hilarious.

Don't know if Happyface has been mentioned. It's about the serial killer Keith Hunter Jasperson, nicknamed Happyface Killer by a journo. interesting and creepy at the same time.

Also Serial has some interesting podcasts too. Especially one about a young lad who got convicted of a murder. His case has so many things that make you wonder "did he do it?".

All of these are true crime stories btw.

For those of you who like true crime and understand Danish, check out "Mørkeland" and "Third Ear" podcasts. Some creepy stuff as well as loads of "WTF" moments in there.

I think you're referring to the Adnan Syed case? If so, plenty have mentioned im sure.

Check out "undisclosed" too for a lot more detail on the case. Like a lot

Happyface is good I think. Some of the interview bits with KHJ are fucked up to be honest. He's genuinely fucked up.

Adnan is the one, yeah.

I'll give undisclosed a go once I'm done with Mørkeland. :)

What does this mean? They could potentially have new evidence?

EDIT: Just read on another article that it was off the back of 2 new witness statements.

Yep, it seems so. But probably very hard to prosecute without a body. But listening to the new episodes, they seem to be confident of a conviction based on some new witness statements.

Criminal is mostly non-murder crime stuff.

For example, the latest one is about (and interview with) the bloke  that set up and ran the FBI witness protection programme. Next one is about a gangster within the programme.

Darknet Diaries and Malicious Life focus on hacking, darknet or cyber crime in general. It does help if you have a basic knowledge of how cyber security works as they can get a little technical sometimes. But the stories they cover and the detail they go into appeal to me.

I’d put caliphate up there with the greatest serialised podcast (ie is finite) that I’ve listened to (and I’m on a current rotation of about 80 pods and have listened to hundreds more).

Just wonderful. It’s a bit of a tough listen at times so not one to have with the kids around.

Fully agree. Like you I am subscribed to a lot of podcasts but Caliphate was really one I looked forward to being released. I think too many podcasts go stale and you can kind of tell they are just in it to get their advert/referral code stuff out.

Enjoy! Some random bits in there that meander a bit and then you suddenyl find yourself howling with laughter. Usually at one of Bob’s but.
