Week Two v Kick Off - 20:00
Venue: ANFIELD Current League Form:
Liverpool FC: W
Bournemouth FC: L
Managers -
Liverpool FC: Brendan Rodgers
Bournemouth FC: Eddie HoweGreetings, Salutations, and Welcome everyone to our second week of league play this season. We kick off as the last match of the week on Monday. However, while last week we had to travel to Stoke, this week we are back in Liverpool. At our home. At Anfield. Today we take on newly promoted Bournemouth FC, as side which we played and beat 3-1 in the League Cup last season. They should not be discounted or underestimated. Yes we beat Stoke last weekend and yes Bournemouth lost of a very uninspiring Villa side, but Bournemouth have fought long and hard to get into the Premier League and they will not be a push over. Lest we forget that even the so called "lesser sides" in the league have been able to spend big this summer (Well not all of them, *cough, Everton, cough*). Sorry about that cough, must have swallowed my ale down the wrong pipe. Anyway, back on topic, The Cherries are managed by Eddie Howe, who has a close relationship with our new assistant coach, Sean O'Driscoll. O'Driscoll spent 22 years with Bournemouth, as a player, coach, manager, and when the times were difficult, he even drove the team bus. So expect some warm welcomes but steely resolve from both camps. Sturridge, Flanno, and Allen are all still out for the Reds due to injury and recovery, while Bournemouth are likely to be without Christan Atsu and Shaun MacDonald.
Our lads should be well up for the match, they love being back at home almost a much as we love watching them ply their trade before us. Lets show the new boys how much support passion the city possesses. I know it is still alive and well, having read about the successful efforts to thwart the hate march on the city. Well done to all involved, well done indeed.
So get down to the ground.
Make your voices heard, raise the hairs on arms of those around you, send spine tingling excitement down the backs of supporters world wide.
Lift those flags and scarves.
Fill all of Anfield with a fervor of Red Passion.
COME ON YOU RED MEN
Manager Quotes - Rodgers: "Building confidence early on is important and building the vibrancy around the place, winning early on is important to that. Home form is so important if you are going to improve. The main attribute is confidence. If you have that, that will give you success. That confidence will come from working hard and getting results at home. We are a team who wants to dominate, that will always be the case particularly at home. We trained at Anfield last night [Friday]. It was important for the new players and staff to acquaint themselves. It's important our home form is second to none this season."
"Eddie Howe is a good guy who I've got to know over a number of years. He will find every game in the Premier League is like a cup final. He and the Bournemouth squad deserve to be in the Premier League. Anfield is one of football's iconic grounds and they will enjoy it."
Howe: "Rodgers has been a role model, really, for me. Someone you look up to and admire. I admired watching his Swansea teams play. When you try and analyse games and analyse systems, and philosophies, he's certainly someone that I've looked at. I respect the way he conducts himself as well. He's now building another Liverpool team, a new Liverpool team, this year, so it'll be interesting to see how they do."
