What metric are you using there?

Bournemouth have spent heavily in the transfer market. They have had a Net spend of £115m this season and £75m last season.

Hughes was appointed Technical Director in 2016. That season they finished 9th. That was then followed by 12th, 14th and then relegation in 19/20. They then finished 6th in the Championship. They were promoted as runners-up in 21/22 then finished 15th after O'Neill turned things around last season and it looks like they will finish around 10th this season.

I think it is fair to say he has done okay and nothing more.

The really worry though is his record in the transfer market. You would expect a DoF at that level with the amount of money he has had to spend to have unearthed rough diamonds and then sold them on for big money. It hasn't happened. Over the last two seasons, their player sales have totaled £1m which was the sale of Ben Pearson to Stoke.

In 8 years at Bournemouth Hughes has only really made decent money once when they got relegated and presumably had to offload players. That summer they sold Ake for £40m and Wilson and Ramsdale for £20m each. That is pretty much it for players sales unless you include Danjuma who they sold for Just over £20m after paying a similar fee for him.

I mean compare that to the kind of job Brighton have done over a similar period. For me it is pretty clear that Hughes isn't here because they ran the numbers on DoF's and he came back as the outstanding candidate.

I don't think he will be making decisions tho more like a coordinator

Jurgs BT interview

"What I like about it, first and foremost he really wants to be the manager here, I like that a lot, that's exactly the way it should be. I like the positivity around it, what people tell me is they're looking forward to it if he would be the next manager, they would be happy, very good football as well.

This is a sensational club and deserves a manager full of energy, knowledge - which he has, his team plays really, really good football, that's what I know about him, I dont know him personally but I know his team plays really exciting and good football and I liked it a lot when I watched it"

Well Klopp seems to be ok with it, even though some fans have decided it's somehow both desperate and arrogant, unseemly and points to fundamental character flaws that can be projected across his entire management style.

Gonna just give Slot my 100% support and see how it goes. Worst case scenario he doesn't do a great job and we bring in Alonso in a few years when he's ready.

Actually I thought he was more Richard Burton, his accent was nearly identical. Although his physical appearance is more Olly Reed.

I was expecting him to say "And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us"

If you had to give out lines what would you give me?
A dot in each square of a piece of graph paper.

Alonso being the obvious example here. No mention of us swerving him because of Leverkusen's 3-4-3, just that we thought he was unattainable this year anyway.

Here’s a crazy thought: maybe we would have ended up going for Slot anyway even if Xabi hadn’t ruled himself out?

It was only ever us fans who publicly set our hearts on him. The club said they would follow a thorough process and it’s plausible they would have eventually concluded that Alonso’s tactics weren’t right for us. There were always doubts about him from some quarters - because of his tactics, not just his inexperience.

Probably just as well it didn’t get that far - imagine what this place would have been like if he’d been available and we still knocked him back…

Get this deal boxed off so we can concentrate on giving Jürgen a great send off.

The season is over so let’s just wind down, rest the players and get ready for…..the Euros  :butt

Not quite concerts, but I see that new Man City funded arena in Manchester is off to a flier. Dicks.

What's the actual need for this arena? I was reading a while ago that the age of mega acts of old was dying out and it was getting harder to fill these venues.
Is it just another case of middle east control for entertainment washing?
