Every time there's a free kick outside the box nowadays it's "in Ronaldo territory"  ::)

And the commentator in the Real game last week said Xabi was "doing a Beckham" when he hit the ball from in his own half.  :butt

Here's another one for you:

Quote
Ronaldo is the best free-taker in the world.

He was very good last season. This season he's scored a couple of great ones but overall he's been shite. Wouldn't put him anywhere near myself.

The best free kick taker in the world is Juninho. Ronaldo shouldn't even be mentioned in the same bracket yet.
It's hard enough remembering my opinions without remembering my reasons for them.

Sign him up Rafa. A good set piece taker has to be worth at least 15 goals a season in direct free kicks and assists from free kicks.

The most expensive squads (excluding players out on long-term loan) are as follows:

Chelsea £207m
Manchester United £206m*
Spurs £188m
Manchester City £140m
Liverpool £127m

(*£226m if Carlos Tevez's deal made permanent, given that it is initially a unique two-year £10m agreement, and very different from 99.9 of transfer deals. Effectively United are winning games with a £30m player.)

Rafa is/has destroyed Ryan Babel, and has already destroyed Robbie Keane, Fernando Morientes etc. :-[

No he hasn't, you twit. It's impossible to just completely change a player's level of ability like that. Maybe just the team or the position they are played in doesn't suit them.

There are exceptional cases such as Brazilian Ronaldo putting on a ton of weight, and consequently he will never be the same again (or maybe they just don't have the legs for it anymore).

I't impossible to "destroy" a player though. I am shit and will always be shit. That won't change sadly, no matter what I do. I might get a little better if I practice more, but my level of ability will always stay the same.

And Ryan Babel's leve of ability is very high, end of story. I'm not sure rafa can unlock that ability, but that's a story for another day.

There's a thread on here somewhere which has stats which shows over the last 5 yrs we're second only to Chelsea in terms of money paid out for player purchases.  UTD are third.  Can't find it now though.

seven lies multiplied by seven multiplied by seven again

we probably bought and sold more players, hence the higher figures..
how about using NET amount

We beat Man United without either Gerrard or Torres on the pitch, therefore they're not half as vital to us as made out!

That's just nitpicking. That was one game where we played well without them. How many times have we simply crashed to bore draws missing either one or the other? Plenty.

Anyway I think this is an especially bad analogy as we tend to work much better as a team in the big matches. Chelsea, Real Madrid, Man U etc. I don't think these two are actually as vital in these as you'd expect them to be. The likes of Stoke, West Ham et al is where we really need them, to produce a bit of magic and get the breakthrough, and it's where we've often failed without them. (Sometimes even with them, worryingly.)
