Random things that I don’t care about:

The colour yellow.
Fiction books.
Famous actors.
Who the president of USA is.
Baseball.
Celery.
France.
TV Soaps.
Timmy Mallett.
This match.

Well here's the downside of winning each game up to now in the CL.........we now have a meaningless match and our only objective should be to avoid injuries to key players. We cannot be caught and have guaranteed top spot.

Obviously we will play a weakened team but even then we have to be careful not to pickup injuries to our backup players as they may be needed at some time soon.

I believe that our injury list includes Firmino, Elliott, Gomez, Jones, Jota, Origi, Williams, Robertson, Milner and Keita. That list is starting to grow and may affect our season. If anyone has a recent update then please correct me; several of these players may be available for the Porto game.

With our list of injuries I think the following will not play.
TAA, VVD, Matip, Robertson, Tsimikas, Fabinho, Thiago, Firmino, Salah and Mane. Alisson will also be rested.

So who do I believe we will play as it’s going to be a wild guess. Klopp might play the likes of a Henderson to give him some match fitness and one or two in the injured list might be fit enough.

I think Kelleher will play but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Adrian.
Ok that’s the easy choice as we have enough fit keepers.

Defence is hard to predict if Williams and Gomez aren’t available.

I think Phillips and Bradley will play. I think Williams may be ok but he is our backup for TAA and so I wouldn’t risk him. I’m also going to assume that Milner will be fit. Koumetio is an option to play alongside Phillips. Maybe Konate will play to give him more game time or even Gomez if he’s fit.

So maybe:

Bradley Konate Phillips Milner

Again I’m struggling to guess who will play in midfield.

Henderson and Ox could play but would you risk them getting injured?
Jones and Keita may be available but even so I wouldn’t risk either of them.
Morton will probably start.

My guess is:

Morton Ox Dixon-Bonner

Up front i’m going to exclude Mane, Salah and Jota.

I think we have to risk Origi and Minamino just to give them a game…….that’s if Divok is fit.

Attackers could therefore be Divok, Minamino and Blair.

I really have no idea who will play but I don’t want to see any of our key players or backup players being risked. Yes there is a case for playing some who need more match fitness but that could go horribly wrong if any of them get injured.

As for the subs then it could be anyone as long as they were either listed in the CL squad or else meet the criteria for the B List.

I could have more chance of winning the lottery than guessing who could be on the bench.

I think Klopp will give minutes to several players who he'd like to see at a higher level.

The result........could be anything although I predict a 2-2 draw.

Porto will be delighted that they aren’t going to face our strongest team and that gives them a good chance of taking all 3 points………but if they do then all I really care about is zero injuries and the chance for some of our youngsters to play a competitive game. We have a crop of good players coming through and this type of opportunity will be great for their development. Imagine standing on the pitch for your first senior start listening to a packed Anfield singing YNWA.

I'm just going to sit back, open a can and enjoy the match without any thought of what the score will be. I might even be tempted to read a fiction novel or listen to Timmy Mallett during the game.

Let's hope it's an enjoyable match and that we don't pick up any injuries.

Over to you guys to debate the lineup or anything else whilst I have a beer.

Oh and please don’t tell me you like Timmy Mallett.

We’ve earned the right to rest players for a change , hopefully we take full advantage of it .
But in the back of my mind I’m thinking the money men will want a win .(£2.4m)

Going to be interesting which acadmey players come as part of the squad. They need good results in the u19 Youth League so might be some who aren't necessarily starters for that side coming up. And then there are players like Gordon and Musialowski who can't be registered for this but might have been in the squad otherwise.

Plus there's a few injuries at that level. Blair did his hamstring a few weeks ago and don't think he's back yet for example.

Alisson, Trent, Virg, Matip, Thiago, Fab and the 3 attackers simply should be nowhere near this and "needing minutes" like we were told before the game last season v the Danish side is shit when someone walks off with a 2 month injury. Hopefully lessons have been learned.

Kelleher, Bradley, Konate, Phillips, Williams, Morton, Adrian, Lijnders, Taki, Origi, Cannonier.

Can’t believe this game ranks lower than Timmy Mallett, but I know what you mean. Our most important match this week is Southampton on Saturday, which when followed shortly after by a trip to Goodison, means I’d give most of our starting 11 the night off.

Love the OP.... but lets be honest, even Timmy Mallett's mum doesn't like Timmy Mallett!

I suspect this might be a mixed bag of players. It really wouldn't surprise me to see Salah play for example.
Konate and Phillips is a good shout for CB pairing and Morton coming in for Fabinho. Would like to see Gordon given some time too, maybe off the bench. Ox would make sense but we can't afford him to breakdown giving other injuries. I guess it depends on fitness of Milner, Origi and Williams for how strong he goes.

I think realistically the line up may be:

Kelleher

Bradley, Phillips, Konate, Tsimikas

Morton

Henderson, Ox

Williams, Origi, Minamino

Although Williams may play lb and another youngster could be drafted in

Unfortunately, no.

With the exception of the regulars, we've got 3 players who are 18 or under registered in the forward positions.

I don't think we'll go anywhere near as weak as we're all hoping, it's just not going to happen for any home champions league game. Especially with the equivalent prize money of winning 24 league cups on the line.

I'm not even sure we have the depth at the moment to accommodate wholesale changes. The best we can hope for is if as many of the following players start: Kelleher, Konate, Phillips, Tsimikas, Morton, Ox, Minamino, Gordon. Those are players I'd like to see but I expect Klopp might go a bit stronger.

EDIT: My mistake, just been made aware that Gordon is not eligible.

Does anyone know if tickets will be available to insignificant OOTers like myself? Considering its midweek, a dead rubber and top players likely rested? Liverpoolfc.com is showing general sale as sold out but what is the likelihood of more becoming available?

As for the game I'm pretty certain we're putting out a strong enough team; winner of this game gets more money than Carabao or FA Cup champion.

Kelleher
Bradley Matip Konate Timmy
Henderson Thiago Morton
Ox Minamino Mane

Matip will offer experience cover to Bradley against tricky wingers so Phillips will come on in the second half.

I’ve seen other clubs pick weaker teams for CL dead rubbers. But not aware of any team starting 4 or 5 lads from the U23s, who are not normally part of the 1st team squad.

I think we may see 1 or 2 U23s start. Rest will be made up of the 16-17 1st team squad players who are fit

Porto need to win this but Klopp will surely tweak the lineup and take full advantage of the 5 subs rule.

List B players don’t need registering. Just need to be born before 2000 and had 2 uninterrupted  years at club from age of 15 onwards.

Good point and I should have checked.

I think the following are eligible, including the B list.

Goalkeepers: Alisson, Kelleher, Adrian
Defenders: Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez, Konate, Alexander-Arnold, Robertson, Tsimikas, Phillips
Midfielders: Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Milner, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Elliott
Forwards: Salah, Mane, Firmino, Jota, Minamino, Origi

B List examples.....does anybody have the verified list:  H.Davies, Koumetio, Quansah, N.Williams, Chambers, Beck, Bradley, Jones, Norris, Corness, Morton, Balagizi, Woltman, Blair, Cannonier

Unfortunately, for example, Gordon does not qualify for the B List.

Yeah I totally agree too, I think people are going to be majorly disappointed. Supsect Minamino, Origi, Konate all start and Milner if he is fit. But I have a feeling we will just manage minutes rather than playing a complete 2nd string, so could see the likes of Matip, Salah, Mane, Hendo, Thiago all playing significant minutes.

Klopp will pick a team to win the game so it'll be stronger than a lot would like (i.e. Mitdylland last season). We'll probably put a stronger team out than for Leicester in the league cup.

Alisson

Williams
Phillips
Konate
Tsimikas

Milner/Morton
Keita/Henderson
Ox

Minamino
Origi
Mane

Use the 5 subs with a view to bringing on the likes of Bradley and Gordon as well as more senior players.

Could have done with Grujic and even Chirivella to tide us over this season

I think you mean "born after 2000".

Here's what I can find:

A player may be registered on List B if he is born on, or after, 1 January 2000 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA – or for a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year. Players aged 16 may be submitted if they have been registered with the club for the previous two years without interruption.

Clubs are entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season, but the list needs to be submitted no later than 24:00 CET the day before a match.

I think you mean "born after 2000".

Exactly what I meant.

I think List B is different for different players because of the 2 uninterrupted years at the club. For example Harvey Elliott can't be included as a List B player this season but most of the Under 23s can. I'm not sure if Kaide Gordon could be classed as a List B player since he only joined in 2021.

Harvey Elliot will be a List B player next season though.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

We’ve earned the right to rest players for a change , hopefully we take full advantage of it .
But in the back of my mind I’m thinking the money men will want a win .(£2.4m)

The money must be a factor as it's something that Klopp mentioned.  It'll be in the back of his mind and I'm sure he's been reminded of the monetary value of winning from the number crunchers within the club, beating Porto and Milan gives us an extra £5M.  In saying that, hopefully there's been no pressure applied to Klopp in that respect and he's free to pick any team that he wants, we all know what happened when Jota played in the CL game last year.....

I think the front 3 will be Origi, Taki and one of Jota/Mane.  Other than that apart from Tsimikas and Konate, I think it's difficult to predict who will start.  Surely Salah, VVD and Matip will be rested?

Think he'll pick 'strong enough' teams for this and Milan. Teams that can beat those two, I'd say. Porto have to be so many levels above their performance in Portugal however many weeks ago, but of course they may be aided by what will surely be a weaker Liverpool side and the need for the points.

I'd go for something like ...

Kelleher
Nico W, Phillips, Konate, Beck (Bradley if Williams isn't fit)
Morton, Oxlade-Chamberlain, one of Keita/Milner if fit
Gordon, Origi, Minamino

As others said below not too sure about whether Gordon can play, but I guess we'll find out. I'd expect Klopp to start Alisson as not to make another defensive change and go for something completely unrecognisable. Morton will start you'd expect, good chance to impress at Anfield and probably the San Siro in a couple of weeks. Milner and Keita will hopefully both be back but not to play 90 minutes. Hopefully Origi is ready to go and Minamino is a definite to start. Good time to have five subs available, imagine the bench will be stronger than it was on Sunday  ;D - It's a big game for Porto but I think we'll have too much for them again here.

Pretty sure along with the financial aspect, he mentioned fans going to the game also and basically wanting to give them value for money.
Surely anyone going realises this game means nothing for us, and we need to manage the squad. Anyone the would be going and moaning about not fielding our best 11 needs to give their head a wobble.
