Might not be the European Cup but I've had some great European nights at Anfield and abroad in the UEFA Cup. I'm looking forward to it.

Think best chance to get into the CL in 24-25 is by winning the EL, as I am afraid we won't get top four next season either.

We'll be Champions next season. ~10p clear of second.

The Barcelona semi final in 2001 was a great Anfield European night.. I’ll never forget it..
The trip to Dortmund for the final was an incredible experience… memories I’ll cherish forever.

Had some amazing days and nights and weeks travelling and watching the mighty Reds at home and away in this wonderful competition.

Greatest one was when in 2001 I went to all three cup finals and we won them all.

Anyone who is dissing this competition - absolutely fine - fuck off then and don't even comment on it because you're a fucking bellend.

You either support us or you don't.

Come on Reds. Hope we bring this back home at the end of the season.

If you can avoid hearing the score, it's possible to watch every match 'as live' later in the day, or next day. I have to do this fairly often as well, as I, too, miss a fair number of games due to work, travel and other committments.

Despite this I have watched just about every single Liverpool match, inc pre-season games, for the last decade or so as if they were live, without knowing the score.

I can echo those feelings.

The european fixtures also directly clash with my current work hours, but over the years i've managed to find a way or two to save the experience.

You do your best to avoid the scoreline, then hop on r/footballhighlights/ on reddit  where usually they provide spoiler-free links to the extended highlights and even full games.

I am looking forward to this competition quite a lot I must say, but it's depressing to think there's about two teams in the Champions League who are outright better than us. Don't anyone dare mention the likes of Arsenal or Napoli either  ;D Shit start last season punished us, no consistency post World Cup through around the time of the United win/Bournemouth defeat. SIGH.

Draw will be really intriguing, will be nice to finally play some different sides and we know we can go all the way in this. Roll on Friday ...

The premier league didn't exist back then. When there was no football, some kind of a precursor to it. And the UEFA competitions were quite different, only Champions played in the Champions Cup. Now a team has to be, eh, about the top to play in the CL.

And the FA cup, league cup and fair play trophy.   Probably safe to say we won't win the big one though. The transfer window.

It's weird, you look at the teams in it and think we have a REALLY good chance, but then there are CL dropouts to come in.

Most of the Europa League qualifiers tomorrow are quite tight. Ajax the only side leading by more than two goals from the first leg.

Think I'm right in that if Ajax and Dynamo Zagreb (3-1 up from the first leg) both come through their qualifiers they complete the top seeded teams.

So reckon we are almost nailed on to get Rangers in that case. Great.

Looking at the teams in there, we have to be massive favourites to win the full thing. A few big guns usually drop from the champions league but that list there just now, there really isn’t much to fear.

Always hard to know what you’re dealing with until the CL dropouts come in. Who are the best of the rest from who’s there at the moment? Brighton and West Ham a pain but over 2 legs you’d expect to be ok. From other countries? Roma under Mourinho have a bit of firepower. Villarreal? Leverkusen?

In two minds whether I want United, Arsenal and Newcastle out of the CL. But if so would want them 4th and not dropping down to us.

Roma are pretty average but have made European finals in the past two years, Villarreal always play nice football and Spanish teams are always a fucking pain, Leverkusen looking much improved under Xabi and have good potential. Whatever competition we're in teams want to avoid Liverpool and we're obviously the best team in this, I said the other night I think really there's only a couple of teams in the Champions League who you could outright call better than us at the moment, it's our own mistakes that have lead us here not loads of other teams being better than us.

The Champions League group stage doesn't often offer a lot of shocks, the sides you expect to go through usually always do. City are the only English team I think have a guarantee of going through, Arsenal really should given how they performed last season plus it's their first post Wenger season in it so they should be keen not to underwhelm. If United get someone like Bayern from the top pot I'd give them a 50/50 chance of going out, they've been crap in this competition for well over a decade now. Newcastle are bottom pot so could be in for a few tricky ties.

The team I'm worried about dropping down is Sevilla. They're a bit shit but they take it more seriously than everyone else  ;D

Newcastle are not getting out of whatever group they are in. Nailed on 4th. To go from the league straight to the CL is way too soon for them to make that jump as a club. They will shit their pants as soon as they hear that CL anthem. They are an illusions of grandeur team. The bum thats scored a ticket to the titanic.

Arsenal are going to struggle after being out of Europe so long. Man U are not getting a decent draw from the pot they are in.

But from a league point of view, I want all those teams staying in Europe for as long a possible before it gets embarrassing for them. Midweek games for them can only make it easier for us.

I want this season to hurt our players. From the outside looking in. Makes them hungrier to get back there next season.

Think I'm right in that if Ajax and Dynamo Zagreb (3-1 up from the first leg) both come through their qualifiers they complete the top seeded teams.

So reckon we are almost nailed on to get Rangers in that case. Great.

Up Sparta Prague...

Looking at the teams in there, we have to be massive favourites to win the full thing. A few big guns usually drop from the champions league but that list there just now, there really isn’t much to fear.

Defensive depth is the issue (we don't want to be playing the likes of Virg and Konate Thursday/Sundays).
