Thanks! I only made it to 7 minutes last time (not a euphemism, but it could be, he's that good!).
You protest too much sir :D

One thing to point out - this will be his first time playing twice a week. His number of minutes per season are slightly (about 20%) above what Origi played last season simply because due to the fact the Bundesliga is smaller, has less competitions and he didn't play in europe. He also burns out towards the end of matches due to the outrageous work he puts in. A good example is the Bayern 4-5 games last season. For the first 70 minutes he literally was everywhere. Not the Redknapp version of the word either though - I mean he was always somewhere in shot. Then as he tired, Bayern got on top and scored 3 in the final 10 minutes.

I remember when Lallana and Firmino first came here they would regularly be subbed off before the end and it became a recurring thing - will they ever do a full 90 minutes? People who put in an outrageous effort either need to find ways to pick and chose their movement better (Gerrard) or condition themselves better to maintain their levels for the full 90 minutes (Firmino).

I suspect Keita will be a game a week player at first with rotation and may even struggle to finish games. We will manage that though of course. It's just a question of conditioning.

Really interesting observation. Thanks for sharing.

Klopp seems to be building a large competitive squad to share the load a bit. Last season he didn't substitute players very often nor rotate too much. But even in this early part of the season he did rotate players for the Pallace match between the two CL fixtures. He has also been throwing on Milner late in matches too. It will be interesting to watch how he manages work loads of players this season with the CL matches added to our schedule.

Klopp's team have certainly improved the conditioning of quite a few players beyond Firmino and Lallana. I hope they will be able to get some of RBL's data throughout the season and put together a plan for keita. I don't think Guinea are in the World Cup, so hopefully some of that work can get done in the off season.

Nabys' dynamism and energy will choke the midfield of opposition teams for sure.

Gegenpressing will be at its optimal output with him.

The work Klopp has done with the consitioning of players has really shown for the start of the season. They look much fitter coming out of a midweek game so i don't think there's much worry in terms of Keita's fitness. You only have to look at Lallana and how much Klopp has improved his stamina.

Most exciting signing since Suarez for me. Still can't quite believe we thought outside the box to get it done. Brilliant work from the club. Would have been on the best summers I could remember if we had got Dijk over the line too.

Just looks like he's easily the best midfielder in the world for a Klopp team. What I'm trying to say is Duncan Ferguson was never the best striker in the world... But would definitely be the best fit in world football for a Mourinho team. Naby and Klopp football is similar. Seems like the perfect marriage.

I read a brilliant quote from him once. Something like:-

"Every time I step onto the pitch I believe I am the best player. Not because I am, but because it's what the club needs me to be"

You can see how that would drive a player to the very very top. How he walks on the pitch and seems to genuinely believe he is unstoppable, even when he was a complete unknown to most playing against Dortmund in his first game in a top 5 league. He also has that fire too that comes from playing favela-type football and not letting shithouses bully you out of the game. Just ask Demme ;) :D

I have also seen him called the king of the second ball. He seems to be able to instinctively read challenges occuring and know where the ball will go. A very Lucas quality. Something we struggled on was that last season at times.

Just checking, you do know his surname is Van Dijk right? You've been referring to him as Dijk way to regularly for it to be a typo.

Holy Shit

Some of the great and well constructed posts in here, with interesting factoids and  tremendous analysis with comparisons drawn and heat maps notated, i feel like i should probably have been a little less flippant and perhaps elaborated a bit more in order to express my admiration for the demonstrated skill level on a more cognitive level. So, please accept this far more in depth thesis on the entire Kieta matter:

Steven Gerrard was, I thought, a once in 50 years player. He had almost every skill set in a professional outfield player in his locker - superb passing range, great creativity and vision, powerful and accurate shooting for goal, great pace and endurance, box to box mobility, the ability to destroy play of other teams, and strength and great determination, consistency, and leadership ability. I did not think that another player like him would be a Reds player again for a long long time.

If Keita fulfils the promise that is seen in the video clips, Keita appears to have what it takes to not only become a player comparable to Gerrard in terms of attributes, but to actually exceed him. Gerrard was never renowned for his dribbling ability and tackling though he was always very enthusiastic about the latter. Keita on the other hand is an elite-level dribbler who would put to shame most wingers. At the same time he has the ability to anticipate passes of others and to intercept as well as to win 50-50 balls with the ferocity and ability of another mascherano. Practically the only thing that Keita appears to be ill-equipped to do due to his height is to be a good header of the ball.  But in every other respect, he seems to have the potential to be even closer to the embodiment of the Roy of the Rovers all-in-one star player than even Gerrard was.

Let us hope that he will achieve his potential and even exceed it, and that he will emulate Gerrard in his long years of service to the club and spend the best years of his career playing for Liverpool. If he does that, I feel very confident that he will put to shame the likes of Pogba etc and be voted the best player in the Premiership and even in Europe in short order.

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

How can that be pressure when he is already displaying those attributes and level of performance playing for Leipzig ? Besides, he appears to have the same big game character of Gerrard - nothing fazes him and he performs when he needs to raise his game.

He does look awesome, but let him come and prove it in the prem. Everyone seems to think he will take to it very easily which is good, but not set in stone.

If he does play as well or even step up a level, expect the big 2 in Spain to come calling 2 seasons or so into his career. They might not be able to afford him though considering RB were knocking us back for 70m or so this season.....

I hope Keita comes in and is the best player the club has ever had. That's what he'd have to do, or get close to, to be considered better than Steven Gerrard. I know there's no malice in this post but suggesting Keita could be better than Gerrard based on some YouTube clips is fucking mental.

Like I said I hope Keita is amazing but let's not burden him with an expectation or hope that he could turn out better than Gerrrad.

I think the fact that he chose to sign a contract with us now, rather than wait to see if we qualify for Champions League again next season, rather than wait till the end of the season to see what other suitors he has, probably tells us where he sees himself certainly in the next few years.

5/ 6yrs down the road, who knows.  But I think he'll be with us for a while.

Hopefully! He seems to have made a very fast trajectory- one season in RB and looking a Bundesliga star already, and having his head turned by LFC. Very possible for me that he does the same here at 23 and by 25/26 he's heavily in demand. As you say he's signed a nice long contract, and i am purely speculating, but sometimes i think its best to get the tough truths out early  :)

Al that I am saying is that based on what he can already do now, he appears to have a ceiling that potentially exceeds even Gerrard's. That does not mean that he will fulfil it in the premiership as an inevitability - that is up to him in the end. But I think it is already clear that he has the full range of attributes in his arsenal that can be said to be even more complete than Gerrard's.

Sold him already and he hasn't even kicked a ball for us yet.  ;D

Haha.  It always happens.  Rawk's law:  if there are a large volume of posts about a new LFC player, eventually the conversation will converge to said player being sold, to Barca or RM, before he's kicked a ball for LFC.
We aren't walking through the storm now - we are the storm.
