And this is shocking how exactly? Team and club in transition, climbing out of one hell of a hole, on top of issues with injuries. There's no magic button to fix this.

I kind of shake my head at the standards some people are expecting immediately, without giving any thought to where we were, where we are, and how to get to where we want to be. There's useful criticism and observation, and then there is the lack of realism that makes me scratch my head.

Regardless, we've definitely gotten kinks to iron out; but instead of looking backward, maybe we should keep our eyes forward?

Cole looked very strong on the ball. I can see him and Suarez being absolutely lethal on the left. Can't wait to see those two together.

Granted Ngog wasn't good tonight but he did nothing wrong taking the shot - there was no guarantee that Cole would have scored.

I know and I never said it was shocking. We all know the biggest reasons why we are where we are and now that the final one has gone today, I'm positive about the future.

Cole's touch was heavy and further away from him. I thought he had every right to go for it.

And Cole bitched at team mates at least twice in the match. Once is too many times as it is.

a spirited win with a team missing lots of players. Reina did not have that much to do really. Thought Soto and Wilson solid in defence, Poulsen shite again after some better performances and Ngog really did not do himself any favours with a bad show. liked Jay when he came on, should play more!! Joe Cole put in a decent shift and deserved a goal in the end - as did Kuyt who despite his failings is a hero! Raul had another class game. MOTM Kuyt (Raul close second)

Yeah I agree. He just need some more playing time cause he looked incredibly tired at the end. But I was very pleased with his performance tonight.

just looking at the fixtures, there some decent teams left in this cup I have to say.

Villereal, Napoli- yeh I know we tonked them but their front line is dangerous, Zenit, Ajax City, and Benfica.

Kelly looks better every game he plays. Thought he was by far our best player in the first half. Agger really composed at the back again, never seems to get fazed by anything. Really hope the two of them are fit for Sunday.

With Gerrard and Carroll back for the second leg we should look much better. Job done tonight, though. I'd happily take that all the way to Dublin.

It was obvious we lacked the finishing touch with none of our strikers available except for Dirk who did a good job in the second half. Raul playing on the right was once again not his position and we lacked his runs into the box, although he did provide few good passes. Kelly was immense before he was subbed off, have to say Carragher thrown into the thickend looked slow and worrying at times, especially compared to Kelly (wow, hard to imagine that few months ago) poulsen had a shocker at both ends, nearly got sent off and wondered why he wasnt subbed off earlier!! Spearing did a much better job, was neat and tidy and played a great pass for Cole who should have scored. Shame Kelly and Agger and Soto are injured, Soto probably can play and hopefully Kelly and Aggers injuries are minor. We could use Carroll next round, Ngog did ok but really should have muscled over them but couldnt. Overall exciting game to watch, still got the win and lets move on, we have Gerrard to come as well.
