Tough game with a weakend squad but we got through and that's all that really matters right now.

Raul was superb, the only one really providing any creativity. MOTM for me.

Seemed like he was shifted out on to the right wing lol  ::)

Considering the shiteous line-up due to players being injured/ineligible it was a decent result.

Look on the brightside, we should have Suarez and Gerrard back for West Ham.

Ngog is so frustrating  :butt

Joe Cole was much improved today, hopefully a sign of getting back to his best, just a shame Ngog denied him a deserved goal  :no

I would have liked to see us put a few past these but 1-0 will do very nicely  :scarf

fucking great stuff that .

Wasn't vintage Liverpool but that's the first exciting European night at Anfield I can remember this season.

Althought to be fair we got a great result in Trabzonspur too.

Anyway Dirk Kuyt you legend. Yet again getting us out of hole when we needed him, Standard Liege  2008/2009 all over again .

Although if Agger and Kelly are serously injured or more than a couple of games we could be in trouble.

Good to see Cole playing the full 90.  It's funny reading some of the reactions to Ngog taking the ball of him that time.

It's easy to forget that Ngog is  a young striker whose fallen down the pecking order a bit lately and is as eager to impress like a hungry young striker should be. I  quite admire his bottle to be honest.

Cole has only himself to blame for not getting on the  score sheet.

Rangers in the next round and City in the semi's would do nicely for us and do wonders for the profile of the cup.

OOOOHHHHHHH Liverpool we love you!

Poor game, even if it was fairly open. Got through in the end though and buys some time to get Carroll and Gerrard into the starting XI for the next round.

Dirk Kuyt with another important game winning goal? Who'd have thunked it? ;)

Did I hear the word relief?

GET IN :scarf

Considering our EL squad at the moment is even worse than what we had this autumn - Gerrard, Johnson, Maxi (today), Shelvey (out), Torres and  Babel + no new players available/fit to play, this was a massive result.

I was about to complain about how terrible a performance that was but I guess that's a good enough explanation. Still frustrating as there were numerous times Sparta had the ball and I just thought to myself "God, this team (Sparta) is really quite terrible."

You could see how pissed off Cole was with him, greedy effer Ngog. Cole deserved a goal after that run in. I thought Cole did a good job, nice to see him doing better. Nice result and happy to be in the last 16 no matter how the first 85 minutes went.

We were down to 9 fit men on the pitch at one stage, we had to shuffle the team around constantly due to injuries, but we kept them out.

One goal for them in the latter stages and we were as good as out, the pressure was really on us not to concede.

I think all things taken into consideration that was a fantastic win tonight, we were without 3 key players to start with as well don't forget...well in redmen !!

He looked like that, but was nice to see him that emotional..
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

god there are some miseries on here! Missing our new strikers, our best goal threat from midfield, our most dangerous player from the first leg, lost our two best ball playing defenders during the game so we couldn't make many positive subs. and we got through. players back for the next tie, we can only improve. now cheer up!

The lack of movement I reckon is down to the lack of pace we have at the moment. we'll be needing a serous injection of that in the summer.

Again I'm happy for Joe getting the 90  Liverpool footballers should not be that out of shape.

Scrappy game from what I saw but a win is a win, and we got one thankfully.

Pleased for Kenny that he can take us further in this European campaign, but we need to get Carroll playing with the team, our shortage of strikers is going to come and bite us one of these days.

Our version of the Duracell battery, the indefatigable Kuyt managed to grab the much needed goal even if it was a bit of a scrappy one - they all count.

Thought it was good to see Joe Cole getting a full game.  His shortage of minutes on the pitch is obvious and at the end he was knackered.  Shame he didnt manage to score at the end it would have been good for his confidence.

Don't know whats happened to Ngog.  He has never impressed me that much even with his goals in Europe, but tonight I thought he looked really out of sorts.

on't see why anyone would grumble about tonights game.  Given that we were without Gerrard, had no decent striker on the pitch, had to substitute Kelly who was having a good match, had Soto injured, had to replace Agger and had Cole playing while obviously unfit, I think the team did bloody well.

Looking forward to the Gerrard celebration Gifs  ;D Was worried about him injuring himself :lmao

Also looking forward to Kyriakos as a super hero in the photoshop thread  ;D

Was really good to see Cole looking confident today, looks much fitter and was putting a lot of effort in. Kuyt was the star man for me though, won every header, put in some decent balls and didnt stop running as usual.
