It doesn't.
The tone of this thread is absolutely fine, there's been some amusing stuff posted. But, even though there'll be very few royalists amongst us this site won't be celebrating the Queens death.
When it occurs one of the Mods will post a collective statement.

Excellent idea. I'm no monarchist, but it's the institution I oppose and take no pleasure from anyone's death.

Yeah, if she recovers the Beeb will look a right gang of vultures. There's a whole operation for the Queen's death, and I think this phase is about preparing the country for the inevitable. I reckon the BBC and other media outlets have been given a head's up by the Queen's secretary.

You hope an unelected hereditary monarchy takes back some authority and fucks with the quasi-democratically elected government? Jesus.

My realistic hope for the future of the monarchy would be that they are stripped of any and all constitutional powers and privileges and that our contitution is re-written to effectively become a republic. It'll never happen though.

As for the Queen, regardless of anyone's view of her and the whole system, it's a seismic event in this country, I think. Most of us have never known a life without her kipper on a banknote. It will bring scrutiny and question to the role of the monarchy in this country (hopefully) and it will have an impact on the commonwealth (again, hopefully).

Hopefully the beginning of the end of the circus.

For the record I am very anti-royal, but to clarify my statement - the monarch actually has a lot of legal power that the Queen has chosen not to use. I have no problem with a more "hands on" monarch that doesn't overreach themself.

Charles won't change a thing. He's already tacitly agreed to keep his trap shut on issues of public interest in return for the right wing press laying off Camilla. I'd be amazed if he lasts more than a few years (not unlike Queen Victoria's successor) and he'll be heavily advised to involve William more and more as they aren't daft enough not to realise that he is the only royal figure who commands any respect after the Queen.

All of this will be a godsend to Truss. Scrutiny of her energy tax shelved for a week or more of mourning while she masquerades as a leading world figure. The Mail will then tell us how she handled it all with great dignity and how it's our duty to give her another 5 year term rather than risk our future with child-eating socialists.

Charles has waited his whole life for this; he's already effectively Regent and has assumed many of the Queen's duties in recent years. I doubt he's going to immediately start divesting his powers to William, but I do believe William will be involved for the experience.

Charles is 73. Old, perhaps, but he's still six years younger than Joe Biden. He could have the throne for 15 years easily.

I think it's pretty much code for it's the end. The fact that the BBC have suspended all usual programming suggests they know and are preparing for the announcement.

I could of course be talking utter shite as usual

It’s what she has been doing since she was born mate. Hardly news

Don’t wish her harm. She’s a mum and a grandma /great grandma, and loved by some people, but the sycophantic shite being churned out by “royal authors” and other assorted bullshitters and leeches is nauseating

There are ten days of mourning with the only two days off work likely to be the funeral and subsequent coronation.  If she died today, the weekend's schedule would likely be cancelled, if she died Saturday I imagine it goes ahead because of logistics, next weekends games would go ahead I would of thought.

The BBC take all Comedy programs off air for ten days, which could be a good thing, oh and our fragile economy could potentially lose billions as the stock exchange shuts for at least one day.
What happens if she dies at half-time.

Yeah only just switched on the news, the way the guy is acting it's happened for sure, like they know the Palace knows, but they don't know they know they know.

Looks like this is just protocol for when she dies, make sure the whole family are there before announcing so it looks like they were not all just lounging around in London while she died, but instead by her side etc.

I don't think anyone is celebrating, it's just most of us are indifferent and have no connection at all with the monarchy.

There's a reason why herself, her husband and her mother all lived to their late 90s and 100+ which is very rare still in this country.

Has she been born Liz Windsor on a council estate in Liverpool, she would more than likely have died a long time ago

Her long life is in no small part down to her privilege of not having to worry where the next penny is coming from.

I won't be celebrating but I don't know her so her death is of little consequence to me I'm afraid
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.
