Think the 2000 will prove a vintage renewal but the 1000 will prove to be garbage in my opinion. Something has to win them though.

Yep looks that way Gerry.

The first two in the 2000 especially look like they’re good horses any year.

Think the French horse will win races, just went too early today. Also Tamfana looks good in terms of this years classic fillies think she’s got a decent chance in the French Oaks, but overall no superstar on the fillies side

This years probable Derby winner broke down moments after crossing the line at Chester today. Hidden Law looked an absolute monster they way he motored home. Such a shame

Impossible to imagine the emotions that the connections of the horse must have gone through, as the horse came down the home straight, only for the horror after the line.

Last two races at Chester won by rank outsiders. 22/1 and 18/1. Wasn't on either.

Been looking at possible Derby and Oaks horses this afternoon.

French Guineas won by 22/1 and 33/1 shots suggests there wasn’t anything special in them.

Like the look of Ezeliya for Dermot Weld in the Oaks, but not sure which one they will go for yet. Tamfana looks like she’s going for the French version.

Friendly Soul won nicely at Newmarket and goes again on Weds at York, May end up short price fav if she wins well.

The Lingfield trials rarely through up the winner but Ambiente Friendly won well and is still a decent price, wasn’t overly impressed with the Derrinstown winner.

Arabian Crown ran a nice trial at Sandown, but Godolphin also have Ancient Wisdom in the Dante on Thursday. I’m considering taking the 12/1 now and hoping he wins nicely. Be interesting to see which way Buick goes if he does win well.

And there’s still City of Troy if O’Brien can work his magic again like last year

Anyone got anything they strongly fancy?

I love Ancient Wisdom as you know but I don’t like him for the Derby. He’s a Dubawi and the vast majority just don’t do it over 1m 4. In fact I could be wrong but despite being a super sire I don’t think he’s ever had a Derby winner.

I think that’s right and I do share your concern about Dubawi as a Derby sire. Think Postponed might be his best over 1m4 (won the Coronation Cup) so he can get classy horses to win at Epsom at that distance, but not usually at 3!

Postponed and Ghayyaith are his best at the trip. He’s probably got the best hand he’s had so far in Arabian Crown and Ancient Wisdom, relative to the other runners. O’Brien doesn’t seem to have any really special 3 year olds this year.

I’d forgotten about Ghayyaith, thought he was better over 10f mind. Although also won the Coronation Cup when it was run at Newmarket during Covid.

Out of this years two Ancient Wisdom seems the more stoutly bred and could have the better chance. Such a shame about Hidden Law as he looked a monster winning last week and was out of a Galileo mare.

Any thoughts on Ezeliya?

Ezeliya looks nice. If she was trained by somebody else I’d be mad keen but Weld just never seems in good form these days. Horses can still win but I wonder if the game has passed him by a bit and the top class ones are just good enough to overcome it, or is the rest of his stable so bad they can barely get a winner?

Ylang Ylang is way too short, Rubies Are Red hasn’t won a race yet, Tamfana will probably go to France like you say so I suspect if Ezeliya ends up in Epsom she’ll be half the price she is now. I’d be keen enough on Forest Fairy at 14/1. I think she was value for a bit more at Chester.

I know what you mean about Weld he seems to have one or two good ones and nothing else. Had Tahirya and Tarnawa in the last few years, hoping Ezeliya might be another out of the top drawer.

Will have to watch Forest Fairy again. Beckett has had some good middle distance fillies

Dermot Weld used to be such a big trainer. Not to Aiden O'Brien sort of levels but in recent years too many owners seem to have focused on the O'Briens etc.

Looks like Ezeliya is heading for Epsom her price has halved. Just 7/1 now.

Ancient Wisdom has gone the other way after his second place today out to 20/1. Wonder if he wants a softer surface to be seen at his best

Vandeek very disappointing but Inisherin looks like he could be very good at the sprint distances.

Levey gave Rosallion plenty to do but the horse got him out of trouble just.

I could see Rosallion developing into a cliff horse for me as long as he’s in training. Hannon absolutely adores him and he doesn’t get excited unless they’re spectacular so I’ll just get sucked into backing him every time. Saw out the mile well today but the Curragh isn’t as testing as Newmarket. I think Godolphin’s guineas winner is a freak.

Could be quite a few rematches on the cards as you think they’d both stay at a mile.

Interested they’re thinking of going up to 10f with Haatem. He’s 50/1 for the Eclipse. Might not go there but I’m tempted in taking the risk at that price.

Egg and spoon race granted, but Matsuri absolutely pissed up at Leicester and seems like a seriously talented Sea The Stars produced animal. Maybe off to the Edward VII at Ascot next and he’d be a live one I’d think.

The more I look at the Oaks the more I’m struggling to get away from Ylang Ylang. She’s not a great price but seems the most likely winner on paper.
I backed Ezeliya a couple of weeks ago but not so confident now.

Elsewhere on the card I like Megalithic (2:00), Fantastic Fox (2:35) & I can’t make up my mind between Balmacara & Native American in the 5:10. Probably end up backing both!

Moore gave her a shocker in the 1000 Guineas. Rode her for a sprint finish despite knowing she needs a trip. Got going much too late full of running.

Hate the slope at Epsom, if you have a horse trying to come from behind. It causes way too many hard luck stories.

Finally a Dubawi. Hopefully does the the double tomorrow with Ancient Wisdom.

Had lost confidence in Ezeliya so didn’t back her again when she drifted to 11/1 but got a couple of nice ante posts so happy enough.

Think the winner and the second are decent. The second wants a flat track though

Cheers Gerry. A nice return but as ever feel it should be more. I’ve got her in some multiples with others at Ascot etc so hoping for some luck with those. I was questioning the pick so didn’t reback today when she drifted. But a nice win all the same.
Also hoping like buses Dubawi will now strike twice in the same weekend

Don’t think Havlin necessarily got AF beat but I think when you watch the side on you can see where Moore outrode him. In a Derby the horses rarely go from travelling to full speed in a few strides. Side on you can Moore and City of Troy coming with a wet sail while Havlin hasn’t really started revving him up. It meant Moore had nicked a couple of lengths and Havlin is suddenly going for everything and the horse can’t respond immediately. In these kind of races details like that matter.

Looked a decent horse. By far the best in the race, not sure how strong those behind are mind. Lope De Vega’s best horses seem to be up to 1m2f so not sure I’d be in a rush to back it for the Arc, but could see it winning either of the Champion Stakes given soft ground, Ascot in particular is usually very soft in October these days.

Edit: Just looked in more detail at the horses behind and it’s possible the first 3 will all prove decent. Think the 3rd horse Sosie has the pedigree for the Arc. Be interested to see if they go for the Grand Prix de Paris with him, would seem the logical next step, although he has already won over 1m3f. Have put a little bit on ew at 33/1 for the Arc. Might not be good enough, might not get there and I also like Ezeliya for it. But 33/1 could look big on the day if he does win something like the GPdP or one of the trials

I think the best horse won, but Ambiente Friendly is a very good horse as well.

He could well get a chance to show how good in the Irish Derby and/or King George with City Of Troy being aimed at dirt races in US now.

Agree on the Jockey Club form being open to question at this point but he did win nice on just his third start. I’d think there could still be a bit left in the tank.

Weld has another interesting runner today at Gowran. Colt by the name of Duraji. Full brother to Ghayyaith. Starting out over 9 1/2 at Gowran doesn’t scream that he’s been showing loads but we’ll see.

Bedtime Story looks like a useful enough recruit. By Frankel and out of Mecca’s Angel. Scrubbed quite a way and didn’t immediately pick up but when the penny dropped really came home well and beat another well bred O’Brien horse out of Newspaperofrecord. Some incredible pedigrees in that race.

Egg and spoon race, granted but Babouche won in the style of a very nice one on debut for Juddmonte at Cork. She’s into the tracker.
