Jerry Springer has passed away at 79

https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/tv/2023/04/27/jerry-springer-talk-show-host-dies-79/11751126002/

Horrible show. Virtually gave rise to reality TV and gave people a stage for abhorrent behaviour and provided 'entertainment' to the masses by laughing at people.

Also included in that category is Jeremy Kyle and Maury Povich.
And all the world is football shaped, It's just for me to kick in space. And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste.

Spot on.
Cashing in on some other poor bastards' misery and the people who watched this shite are as bad, if not worse.

You know the Springer show was faked right? We had a lady in the office who was on it. Completely and utterly faked.

Not denying it's a crap show and mindless stupid entertainment but not true.

Agreed. It was a modern day freak show, or some weird gladiator pit with a braying crowd. In some ways I think it helped enforce extreme views and entrenched prejudice.

Doesn't matter if it was faked. It was the spectacle that influenced the viewers at home. Fox tells lies all the time too.

Quote
While speaking to Australia's The Morning Show (February 2023), Jerry was asked by hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gilles how real the show was.

He responded: "I'd say it was 98% real. In fact, the lawyers were involved, you'd get sued if you made it up."

Jerry explained that before the episode was aired would-be guests would explain their situation while the cameras were rolling, and they would "liable" if they made it up.

He described how the guests would "perform" on the show, just like celebrities do on late night TV.

The showbiz veteran said: "The situations were truthful. What was embellished probably, not probably, certainly, was the reactions. Because you had the audience screaming, 'Jerry, Jerry!''

"They'd seen the show 100 times before. And so you could have the same people on Oprah and they would have behaved perfectly.

"It's just that when they came to our show, they kind of knew the drill and they just behaved like that."
And all the world is football shaped, It's just for me to kick in space. And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste.

Glengarry Glen Ross is one of the most underrated and underappreciated films ever, outstanding dialogue, Mamet wrote a screenplay for the ages with that film.

I didn’t mention that because it never really seemed that big a deal, and it was almost certainly a set up. He always seemed quite ‘right on’ and had an enormous following at that time so perhaps seen as a threat to the establishment. With Large Marge now.
