Habanero?

Good luck with that.

I love them. They're my 2nd favourites of all Chillies

Seen the first chillies sprout today, 3 of them, already grown quite long. Can't wait till they're ready to put on/in something.

Just bought a packet of dorset naga's, looking forward to and also dreading trying these littlke beauties. Around 1 Mil scoville units of pure heat. Anyone tried them?

Yeah, they tend to vary quite a lot.. definitely get fresh ones, I had some dried ones and they were harmless but some can be absolutely lethal. Great flavour though.

Got this great sauce recently, would deffo recommend http://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/shop/index.php?target=products&product_id=147

Just planted some seeds and am germinating them inside, most people have said you have to plant them in spring but our apartment stays pretty warm so I'm hoping i can get a cycle in before then. Got 6 seeds in 2 pots, each pot in a ziplock bag acting as a mini-greenhouse.

Can't wait to see them sprout!

Too salty to be used as a dip i find. Scotch Bonnets are ok but i prefer Naja chillies as they are a lil spicy lol. Can only get dried ones though. Anyone know where i can get fresh ones.

Just starting out growing chilies, got a load of different seeds from the internet the first batch I planted are coming along pretty good. Going to transfer them from pots to the garden today. I got 7 plants from about 20ish seeds so I'm well pleased. They are about 1 to 1.5 foot high, and some are starting to flower already.
Should I leave them to flower at this early stage, I have heard it's better to remove the flowers so the plant can concentrate of growing bigger instead of producing fruit.
Oh...the variety I'm growing at the moment is "Aussie Black"

The 'Aussie Black' goes from green to red to black. They have a
moderate heat, rated at 7/10, are a colourful bush and  could well be
grown as an ornamental shrub.

Nah plenty of time i reckon, they are still selling them in pots in wilcos and b and q.

I have three habanero plants that i started from seed on the window sill last august, they survived the winter and are about two foot tall now. God, I treat them like surrogate children, I'm going to get a few back-ups going in case these disappoint ha.

Defo. I got my first bottle of Encona around 1990 and have tried hundreds of sauces since... still always revert back to Encona. Wonderful stuff!!
And if you feel Encona isnt hot enought, but love the taste, just whack a few drops of that Daves stuff (the one kitster posted a few posts back) in it, mix it up, still that great Encona taste but absolute dynamite! I have it on everything, go through a bottle a week....

so since 1990, thats about 1000 bottles!!!

Currently making myself a spicey chicken hotpot, I've put 5 scotch bonnets and a few thin green chillies in, all with seeds. Just tasted the concoction, it's an absolute behemoth, can't fuckin' wait.

Class of 2012?  Last years where a washout for me, I left them in seedling pots to long and got pretty much Zero....  I "overwintered" them, basically google told me top prune right back and water very sparingly.  I kept pruning the tops as the first/2nd ones got way to tall, they are right now bushy as hell and have started to fruit,  Jals, Scotch Bonnet and a Naga variety....  Any one else playing?

I don't bother with seeds, I just buy the little plants. This year I have:

- tabasco
- super chili red
- anaheim
- serrano
- mucho nacho (seems to be a jalapeno variant)

Nothing yet, will report later. Have room for a couple more, on the lookout for a cayenne and a habanero

Leaving mine in a sink filled with water didn't seem to do them any harm. Got a few jalapenos coming through again which is nice. Planning on sticking them in a curry next week :).

Any tips with top pruning? Mine is getting really bushy and the cable ties I'm using to hold the main branches together is starting to strain.

Bought my first chilli plant a couple of weeks ago...threw the first one into a salad this afternoon.  Lovely stuff.

Any three-line summary of tips?  Concerned that I might have been over-watering at first, having scanned throug the thread briefly but it doesn't half gulp up the water - I presume that if they were being over-watered and the roots were rotting, then I'd be finding standing water in the outer-pot?  I'm also unsure as to whether I need to move the plant into a larger pot.

Not quite sure what type of chilli they are - got them from a garden centre near my folks'...apparently from the 'Pick a Hot Pep' brand (no details on the website about what they are)  :-\

Having read through the topic here, I feel dead jealous!  Might get myself another plant or two when I move to the new flat in July but next year I'll want the satisfaction of growing them from seed - when's best to begin?
