Do we need him to play as the 6 in the early part of the season? If so then he needs to start accumulating some pitch time there in the remaining preseason games.

With the versatility of our midfielders, it would be interesting to see if they will swap places and formations during a game. It can totally confuse the opponent.

I think it's a genuinely difficult one to call. If we get a new signing in soon then presumably they'll play there, but otherwise it could be any one of MacAllister/Thiago/Trent/Bajcetic. All are possible but I'd say none are ideal so hopefully someone comes in soon.

I mean I think he just wants be able to play in both spots in Preseason etc.
It makes sense to have more creative 8/10 type on the same side as the inverted FB it was not on that side in the 2nd half.
Preseason is working about fitness and shape stuff but also good to test out some stuff to see how players look there too.

Would hate to see him at the 6. Get him in a position to let him do that vertical running we saw in the World Cup, like the run beyond the last man to set up Di Maria for the second goal in the final. That's what we're missing. Non-crocked Keita could do it and it was so valuable (think of his goal at Old Trafford).

I'm hopeful he slots straight in for Henderson and pretty much instantly takes us up a notch. The bar is pretty low based on Henderson's performances last year but Mac looks a super intelligent player who will adapt quickly.

Nice tidy passer, strong on the ball. I think he’ll link up well with Salah and Gakpo in particular. He also has the ability to spot a quick pass into the penalty area. I think he’ll link things together and keep the ball moving fast. We have the forwards to read what he wants to do.

Just does a job where ever he plays.
Him taking the ball down with his chest out of the air then the perfect volley to Robertson just as he getting pressured really early in the game was brilliant. It was one of his first touches of the game too.

For my money, he's been our best player in pre-season. Which when you consider the sheer amount of goals and assists our forwards have racked up is a testament to his quality.
