Monitor for my comp not working, advice needed
« on: December 22, 2005, 11:29:09 am »
Hey all, on the comp upstairs everytime I start up the computer the monitor just goes off after about 30seconds, comp stays on but the monitor just goes to a blank black sceen like it would when its turned off. I've switched over the monitors yet it does exactly the same with a different monitor, it was letting me on for about 5mins last night and then it'd go black but now it only takes about 30seconds, and obviously because theres no screen after 30secs you cant go into the settings and have a look around. Anyone got any ideas of what it might be? Ive checked all the sockets and they all seem fine. Could it be that safe mode thing? As the computer seems to stop loading straight away aswell?

Cheers all.

boot up in safe mode and check the resolution. set it to a low one, say 800 by 600 and restart as normal.  Then, feck around withthe res settings using the TEST button, then you will know if the monitor can handle the set res.
Alternativley, let some jumped up IT gimp offer his/her services to repair said pc/monitor at a small fee of £120 p/h.

Hit F8 on windows startup splash screen, then you'll get a DOS boot menu and you can choose safe mode

if yer having the same problem with two different monitors start looking at yer graphics. if the cards knackered it may actually cut out after start up.

I start it up in safe mode and it goes to a screen with a load of weird writing ending in stuff like DRIVERS.FJIFJDIF.sys that covers the whole screen and then it wont load any further. I tried booting up with another thing from the f menu and it sorted of loaded a bit but it quadrapled everything I had on my screen, ive got a liverpool pic on my desktop and instead of seeing all the players i see Riise 4 times, Alonso 4 times etc and had 4 mouse cursors, the colour was also out and the pic wasnt greatly visible, then it wouldnt load any further than that. My comp must be fucked

also check your power options in control panel. They may be set to turning the monitor off after a certain amount of time

From what you have said above it looks as if you have gone into another mode of safe mode. try to re-boot in safe mode, but choose the one that just says safe mode, not safe mode WITH something

So it doesnt give you the option to boot in safe mode?
Try hitting F5 or Escape as well as F8 (different for different operating systems / models)
Should give you a menu where you choose safe mode from it.
If you dont understand any of the writing then you've got problems

It gives me the option to boot from safe mode so I do it and thats where all the weird writing comes up. The furtherst ive got into my computer was some option about loading your last settings that worked but that quadroopled everything up on my screen and the colouring and everything was shit + it didnt load anything on my desktop

When you boot the PC does it reach the desktop screen ?

It gets near there if i use the "Load last settings that worked" from the F menu but it doesnt go all the way and the colours are fucked and everything quadrooples up so i have 4 mouse cursors etc

The colour will be shit as it runs in a low settign mode with the minimum drivers needed.

But dont know why your are getting mouse issues.

Try that last known good configuration thign again. and see if you can get to start-progs-accersories-system tools-system restore

Monitor help.
« Reply #39 on: November 29, 2020, 01:33:56 pm »
Hoping someone can help me here as I’m scratching my head.

I’ve got a PC running windows 10 64bit with a nvidia geforce gtx 1050 ti graphics card. Comes with HDMI, VGA and DVI outputs.

When I first set up my screen months ago I couldn’t get the DVI or VGA to work so I just used the HDMI output. Not a problem. Now I’ve bought a second screen though so I can have dual display and I’ve got the problem again. I can’t for the life of me get the PC to detect either screen when connected via VGA or DVI. I tried changing the input on the monitor too but that also did not work!

Anyone got any possible solutions?
