Is it possible to add a password to mail. Would like it to ask for a password before looking for new emails or trying to read emails. Or even a password for when you try and run the app

Whilst that is true (takes one) - Mail is much better than either thunderbird or entourage, thunderbird is shockingly bad I found. Very cluttered and badly orginised.

anyway, to answer your question... no.

Macs are the greatest thing in the world.  amen.

I spent years slagging them off, smug in my virus infested PC World....anyway, i finally cracked when after storming out of the office after spending MORE TIME PRESSING 'OK' TO POP UPS INFORMING ME OF FAULTS than doing any work; i found myself in John Lewis, where a salesman (who must have had a blow to the head) offered me a Macbook Pro 17" for a grand.  "Fuck it", I said, handing over my debit card.

Never looked back.  Viva Apple.

Good, wouldn't want you ending up in a fucking wheelchair.

That advert is NEARLY as laughable as the one from Microsoft about security.

You don't seem to get the advert, it isn't the user that is in the wheelchair - it is the computer. Many laptops end up with fuck off big dents in them from power cable yankage, nothing wrong with having a new magnatised power cord, infact it's a great idea.

Do we get to see one where a mac user trips, falls in the bath and the electric cord follows him in there?
No? Damn  ;D

I see your point about the advert, but I've never used a laptop yet, and believe me I've used a lot, where the power cable doesn't "Pop right out".

No, it's not a great idea. Not by a long shot. In fact, it'll not be a great idea for about another 5 years, when it becomes common in PC's. Then it'll be the best idea ever, grounbreaking.

It's not a great idea, but then it's not a bad idea either.
Xbox I think introduced the idea of a 'separator' bit on the controller to prevent people yanking them out. Although I'll conceed that's more likely that tripping over the power cord, it's still designing for the lowest common denominator.

If Apple can put instant removing power cords on their equipment at no extra cost then I don't see why we should lambast them for it.

The only downside I can see is if there is negligble resistance on the apple cord and it's too easily knocked out (and drops the power to the machine). The cords behind my desk are prone to being kicked  ;D

I'm guessing that it's the disc image mounted on the desktop disappearing.

Go to your hard drive, into applications, and see if firefox is still there. If it is, before starting it, drag it to the dock - from then on it will always appear there.

Those sort of power cords have been on things like deep fat fryers and the like for a while. Good idea to extend it to laptops.

It's a superb idea. The MagSafe cord is going to save people shit loads of money on repairs to cases etc.

Can't say I can find or have ever seen a deep fat fryer (or any device) with that design of cord on it.

Next question - Boot Camp or Parallels?

Depends what you're doing  - I use bootcamp and I would use that method if I had 512 RAM - running both at the same time isn't great on the RAM.

Parallels is more convenient though and the new version can use the bootcamp partition to boot from, so you can have the best of both worlds.

Maybe you should look at VMWare Fusion for virtualization. They have DirectX 8.1 support in their current beta, so they are aiming themselves at gaming / 3D from the start.

Parallels don't plan to add this till later down the line

Bootcamp has worked out great for me so far. If you can get past the having to reboot whenever you need to switch.

Having been mac for a few months now though, I rarely have to use Windows. OSX can do everything I need to do, so much better.

I had a problem with my Parallels, if anyone can shed any light on it.

I installed the copy of Windows that came with my windows laptop, used the Product Key for that. All installed fine until I had to verify it. Had to install an SP2 crack to get around the verification issue, but after 30 days of it being installed, when I logged on I got a message saying that I needed to verify Windows. When I pressed OK to verify, it told me that I had already verified the windows I was running and then proceeded to log me out. When I logged back in again, took me back to that same "you need to verify windows" screen. Press OK > already verified > log out etc.

The only thing I could think of was that I used an SP2 crack on an SP1 version of windows, but as it worked for 30 days I thought nothing of it.

You can run Windows natively and everything.
