Seen any good movies recently?
« on: August 5, 2005, 01:32:11 am »
Anyone seen anything good they want to talk about?

I just saw Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, absolutely loved it. Possibly my new favourite film, Johnny Depp was amazing (as always). Great story as well... well if you can call two hours of drug trips a story...

I saw that new War of the Worlds recently and after all the rave reviews about it I honestly thought it was a lousy pile of shite.  Esp the Tim Robbins part "And the Oscar for complete overacting goes to........."

I know you didn't say that, that's why I asked, to check whether it was him in general you didn't like, or just his part in the movie. I didn't even know he was in that one...  :-[

Saw Sideways a couple of weeks ago. Not bad.
Of course, I have been watching the Lone Wof and Cub series lately and ordered the rest of the collection - NOT BAD AT ALLLLLL!!! (If you like the genre.  I also started a thread on it a while ago)

Yeah, Sideways good.

I loved War of the World to bits, Pooler: this is a good thing as it shows that there's always room for wide varieties of movies to be made, and not the one type that would cater to all audiences if we all loved the same thing.

Notice the Tim Robbins character gets the chop in the film: maybe Spielberg had picked up what you thought about Robbins acting and decided to send him a message about it.
Blame me for all the draft threads on RAWK

Saw Batman Begins recently: Massive pile of steaming wank.
Also saw the latest Star Wars film: bigger pile of steaming wank.
Saw the War of the Worlds remake: Very close to being a massive pile of wank, except I saw it after the other two, and compared to them is passable.

At the piccies I enjoyed 'Batman begins' & 'fantastic four'. even though they're both just special effects surrounding a thread of a story !!

Just seen 'Run Zola Run' on DVD and that was excellent!!!!

I just bought John Carpenters 'Dark Star' as I saw it loads of times in the late seventies - It used to be really good, but watching it now was difficult as its complete shite!!!

Crash is very good film IMO. It's weird and sick but it's good. I recommend Oldboy - brilliant Korean film, Hose of Flying Daggers, The Here - both from China. Yesterday watched Village - i know it isn't newest of films but still very interesting (sp. the end).

I thoroughly recommend "Garden State". The best piece of characterisation I've seen in a LONG time.

You can view a trailer HERE

It is superb. PLEASE go and rent it. I did, and I've now bought it. Leapt straight into my top ten favourite films (and that's going some).

Also, I think i'm correct in thinking that's the first non-pornographic film in your top ten?

If so, well done "Garden State"!!
