if hendo and lovren are out then

                   allison
   taa vvd fabinho robbo
       milner keita shaq
       salah bobby mane

Is Gini injured? I would have him instead of Keita.

What's this about VVD possibly being injured as well?

Klopp : “I had to make these [9] changes. A few players were really ill and then in the last session we lost Lallana with a minor thing, but it’s enough [to rule him out]. Hendo had something from the Man City game. Virg cannot play; he is at home and hopefully it is nothing but he has played all the games so far.”.”
We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

It says in the Echo that he sat out the trip because of a knock. However, I’m starting to think that Klopp mentioned “knocks” (every player has a little niggle here and there) so as to prevent the pundits banging on about disrespecting the FA Cup. They can’t really say that if the club have said the player is “injured”.

My conspiracy theory is that there wasn't anything wrong with lovren. Klopp didn't want to get even more flak by starting a 16 year old so told lovren to feign injury early so that Hoever could come in. Keeps the young lad from getting nervous too.

Why was Klopp fuming with lovren?

I think it was because he was walking off the pitch instead of sitting down so the trainers could come on and waste time while they got the sub ready to come in.  That way we didn't have to play a man down while we waited for Hoever to get ready.

Any updated news on Matip and Gomez?

From what Kloppo said Matip was close. He has done all the training and as soon as he is in full contact training, be it a session or two, he is ready.

Gomez might be a litle longer because of not being in fitness training but he didnt sound too far away either.

Lovren seemed to be rubbing the side of his thigh.  I was thinking it could have been a dead leg even.

So a hamstring is surprising ... ah well.  We will manage

Echo

The club remain hopeful, however, that the injury isn't too serious and Lovren is able to return sooner rather than later as the Reds' Premier League title charge enters a crucial period.

Gomez was enjoying a fine season for the Premier League leaders before he suffered a fractured leg in the 3-1 win over Burnley last month.

The England international has missed the last eight games and is still someway from a return with a definitive comeback yet to be pencilled in.

Matip, who injured his collarbone in the 1-0 win over Napoli on December 11, is expected back before Gomez but this weekend's game will come too soon for the former Schalke star

The 27-year-old will be assessed next week ahead of the home game against Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace.

Not good - he was supposed to be 6 weeks from early december (right about now) - looking like an 8-10 week injury now.

Matip will be back quicker as he has only had to avoid contact.  He will be back the moment that contact is possible.

He’s still be able to do running etc.

It’s difficult to do that with a broken leg, so Gomez will take longer to get match for.  Simple.

It was pretty incompetent of the club to put out 6 weeks for him even with it being a fibula fracture as having a basic knowledge of fracture healing will tell you that's far too soon!

They didn't give it as a definite date though, it can only be taken as a rough estimate. Therefore I'm not worrying, he'll be ready when he's ready.

Out of curiosity, aren't we talking about different "time out" scales? I presume that the club doctors would set a period for which a player is out, say 6 weeks in Matop's case, meaning that he is not available for training. Then training starts, and he'd gradually go to full-contact (a week or two?), then he's getting ready for a game.

So is it possible that all numbers are consistent - 6 weeks out before training starts, then two weeks in training, and game-ready whenever Klopp says?

One major problem with being in a situation like this is it tends to make the manager bring injured players back too fast, which can cause further injuries. Let's hope we don't rush things and risk more problems.

It doesn't matter what it was 6 weeks before return to training or return to play was always going to be very optimistic. Most people don't come out of their protective boots before 6 weeks because of the make up of the new bone.

Hopefully Gomez can get a few games under his belt before the first leg of the champions league. With Van Dijk missing would like to see Joe in there instead of a Matip/Lovren partnership.
