There's a huge misconception that Clyne was our backup RB.

I dont think there is. People just think he should be and dont constantly want players moved out of position if Trent gets an injury.

Klopp obviously doesn't though. There's a reason he's happy to let him go.

Injuries are part of the game. We have a fair few at the moment. But we have the squad to cope.  Milner will play at right back. Like he's done before and done very well.

Matip is back to play centre back and that frees up Fabinho to take over Wijnaldum's role in midfield, if required. Maybe it's the opportunity for Keita to get a start and really stake a claim for being a regular starter.

There's then 10 days or so to the Leicester game. Maybe Gomez, Lovren and Wijnaldum will all be fit by then and the picture will look very different.

As it stands we are still able to put international, highly paid players into the starting XI. Matip, Milner and Keita are the 3 potential players that need to fill in for a game is hardly a position we need to start cry arsing about (not that the quoted poster here was). Our team should still have enough quality to beat Crystal Palace at home. We'll still have a combination of Keita or Shaqiri, Sturridge, Origi, potentially Lallana to be on the bench. As well as maybe giving an opportunity to a promising young player like Rafa Camacho.

Yeah but WHY WHY WHY did we loan Clyne!!!!!!

I need to write a strongly worded letter to Klopp.

Jeez there’s some over reaction on here. Milner is a more than capable deputy until Gomez is back (which looks to be in 2 games time) while Matip has been in full training for over a week by Saturday so he can play at centre half.

That still gives us Fab, Henderson, Keita, Shaqiri and Lallana as midfield options.

Gomez needs to be centre-half, forming the best partnership in the country with VVD.

Either Fab or Milly v's Palace it is then. Not a bad couple of understudies there!

Four weeks is also four games as we've got time between fixtures now.

Gomez will be back for two. Milner and Fabinho can cover otherwise.

Not a crisis, unfortunate but no need to overreact.

It had been feared that Alexander-Arnold would require surgery and an even lengthier period out of action but, with that course of action no longer required, there is confidence at Melwood that the teenager could even be back ahead of his tentatively prescribed schedule.

Exactly. Our team on Saturday will probably be Alisson, Milner, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Shaqiri, Mane, Salah and Firmino. That's really, really strong. We'll probably need to bring Camacho and Jones onto the bench, but that's something to celebrate not fear.

True - but Fabinho is now our best midfielder. We missed his guile and steel in midfield against Brighton.

I get all the 'but X can cover there' and 'Y can cover there' but we are weakening other areas of the pitch.

I thought we missed Fabinho in midfield in both the last two games. Taking Milner or Fabinho out of midfield leaves us short there - with Lallana unreliable, Gini a doubt then suddenly we are limited in midfield. If Shaq drops back in there, an injury to one of the forwards means he is not an option for there because he is needed in midfield.

I appreciate why Klopp likes a small squad and maybe with just Premier League games to contend with we can cope but it's just frustrating that we have to do it.

really it should be "Announce Crying" with the amount of whining going on.

Milner will be fine for a short spell at RB. Matip is back and will partner VVD. Fab back in the midfield.

Lovern back week after and Gomez week after that.

We were always going to have a period like this at some stage. City have had a fair chunk of injuries, even with their massive squad, and I'd not be surprised at all to see it happen to them again the way baldy flogs them.

This isn't ideal but we can handle it. No big concerns.
3 midfielders minimum in the next window. And probably another young CB to boot.

Anything else is negligent.

By all means have a discussion, but I can’t be arsed with people worrying over us letting our 4th choice RB leave. 2 months ago no one would be bothered with Clyne leaving but one, albeit good, game later and suddenly the world’s falling in.

It's a blow but not the end of the world. Maybe the month off will freshen him up for the run-in.

Something like this for Saturday will be fine:

Alisson

Milner
Matip
Van Dijk
Robertson

Fabinho
Henderson

Then the front 4.

If Matip isn't fit then i guess Fabinho at CB with Keita alongside Henderson will be the way to go. Milner vs Zaha is a bit of a worry though.

I think the point is we loaned out Clyne knowing Gomez was injured, TAA was struggling, Matip was out and Lovren is injury prone. There appears only downside in letting him go.

Personally I just would've liked to wait a few weeks for some defenders to come back from injury before rushing him out the door. He's been out for like a year anyway what does 2-3 more games matter, and he probably would've played in the FA Cup anyway.
