Not very lucky there

If Trent is done then we are screwed

It won't be far fetched to see Fabinho play RB, if Klopp doesn't trust in Clyne (as an attacking force. Defensively he is solid)

I don't keep up like I should with our youth teams. Any CB's in the youth squads who have looked ready to step up and fill in if needed?

Lots of tough fixtures over the next few weeks, horrible time to lose two of our four senior CB's.

Interesting the club have said 6 weeks, seems like an accelerated rehab protocol for clavicle surgery.

So, it looks as though he will be back the same time as Joe Gomez then. Shame for him and us, get well soon Joel.

With the slight issue being that Klavan wanted to leave to play more football you're right.

Milner, Clyne and Fabinho can play RB.

Gini played in a back 3 last year too.

Is Steven Caulker available on loan?

Honestly I'm surprised. Every clavicle fracture and fixation I've treated has always come with restrictions in any overhead movements for the first 4-6 weeks. That being said there is rarely a restriction in shoulder movement afterwards so it could be as soon as he's allowed to do that he can train and he'll probably be able to run as soon as it is comfortable for him to do so but 6 weeks just seems a few weeks too early for me

Conor Masterson made the bench v City in the CL last season. Maybe someone like him will be drafted in.

This is so bad, as it leaves little/no room to rest VVD, who will surely need a rest at some point.

Let’s hope Trent has broken a metatarsal.

No.

George Johnston has the most potential of the bunch IMO, not ready for the PL at the moment though.  Nat Phillips might get a run on the bench given how he did in pre-season, hopefully VVD and Lovren can stay fit in the meantime.

I've just looked at our fixtures and our run is much less intense over the next month. We've got 5 days to United, 5 to Wolves, 5 to Newcastle with 3 to Arsenal following, City is 5 days after that, tha FA Cup match is 4 days after City then 5 days to Brighton and a week to Palace. 5 days is more than optimal for recovery between games so we should be able to manage things with VVD quite easily. Just all depends on whether Lovren can stay fit really.

Bugger. Hopefully Lovren and VVD get through the Christmas period unscathed. Fabinho has stated before that his preferred position is CB so he should be able to cover there if needed.

Come that FA cup game too we'll have a clear picture of our standing in the league, and know we're in the last 16 in europe. I'd be looking at pretty big rotation if we're still top or close to top. I'd probably be willing to throw gini/fabinho or someone in for newcastle at home too.

What a blow for Matip and the club. Given the injury histories of Matip, Lovren and Gomez, a scenario in which two were injured simultaneously was always in the realm of possibility. I suspect we will have Phillips or Masterson on the bench and either fast track one through or sign a stop-gap in early January

I was just thinking last night that we're in a great position in both the league and the CL now and hopefully nothing happens that could potentially derail our season. It seems like anytime we gain the ascendency it comes at a cost. The Gomez injury was hard to take because he'd built up such an important partnership but Matip stepped in brilliantly. And now this. Such a fucking freak of an injury to happen literally in the last seconds of the game. Feel for the lad.

I'm bracing myself for news of Trent now, because if we lose him it's going to be a serious test for us in the midst of the busiest schedule of the year. Also worried that VVD has basically played every game and is now going to have to play every game over Christmas.

At least the Champions league is over for a while. And we dont have the League cup to contend in. The Christmas/New year week could be hairy, especially given who we are playing.

As long as VVD stays fit, we should be alright. Lose him, and I'd worry, given the other absentees.

Gomez and Matip are due back in January so we're not going to rush out to sign a centre back in January.

But we'd gain more by giving one of our youngsters a chance than wasting time on a player who is well past his best.
