When I moved in with my new partner I brought a load of LPs that had been in the loft for years and she had some of her own. So we bought one of these:

Sony PSLX 310 BT with Bluetooth. Has great reviews for a mid range turntable and connects straight to bluetooth headphones and speakers.

Downside was that it didn't connect to my Sonos 1 so I forked out for one of these:

...which has line-in for the turntable and shares with the Sonos 1 in the other room.

The sound is excellent and I've been playing stuff I haven't heard properly for ages.

I'm in the market for a turntable and the Sony PSLX 310 looks tasty.

What model is the Sonos?

It's the SE without cellular. I figured it's not worth it paying extra for the always-on display on the 6-series and the cellular (which I know the recipient will never use), so I got the SE for around £270. Yet to see any of these on any sort of sale.

Yes massively.

Desklamps occupy space and glare the eyes. It's a discomfort to work late nights.

Lightbars are usually placed on top of the monitor, and throw light on the keyboard/monitor/mouse region. So it doesn't glare your eyes.

That’s brilliant. I have been looking for options to replace my current desklamp with a wall-mounted or slimmer one to have some more space, but these look perfect!

Yeah, I got the one with the little controller to adjust it on the desk but tbf the other one would've been fine cos I mostly just turn it on when I sit at the desk and I never change it.

They are really good, I use an iMac so the front is glass and it's irritating to work with a normal lamp or the main light on cos there's reflections and weird shadows, this just throws light down onto the desk. Room is north facing so don't get a lot of natural light in here.

Nice concept. Might consider it myself although I'm generally happy with the lights in my home office!

Well it doesn't look like he wants to be a teacher when he grows up :)

Reminds me of the joke. The wife of a burglar says to her son what do you want to do when you grow up son?
The son replies " I want to follow in me dads footsteps".
The mum says "oh I didn't know you wanted a life of crime".
The son says "I don't, I'm gonna be a copper and catch the prick".

Anyone bought any from Europe since the new brexit rules came in?

I ordered a tool from Germany- cost €3270. Got an email from ups yesterday saying I need to pay £681.72 in import fees. £16 odd quid of this is UPS’ admin fees.

What’s the rest? UK vat? And any import tax now from Europe?

I thought we had "Tarrif free" trade with Europe?

It sounds like VAT though as VAT would be around €654 on that at 20% not sure what that would be in £s though as would depend on the exchange rate

That's likely the German VAT that. Since Brexit, the VAT isn't always being charged at point of order and VAT and duty is being collected when it gets to the UK instead. 621.00 of that charge is likely the 19% VAT that Germany charges
