I understand the point you're making, but there's 25,000 sat on the season ticket waiting list now and a fair few who'd love to get on it when it re-opens. Unless we declined to Hull/Palace level for a prolonged period of time it's difficult to imagine the attendances dropping any significant level.


Agreed that caution is probably the best approach though.

If you read the season ticket waiting list thread, most people on the waiting list already go to the match.  A season ticket is a way to pay for the seat and a way to get cup tickets and away tickets.

Very interesting point. So 60 pages of the 70,000 seats my arse thread later and the realisation that it doesn't make financial sense to build more than about 60k anyway, we could probably bury the issue of capacity.

They do? Even if so, I imagine many would prefer having a season ticket than paying the annual memberships and taking their chances on the phonelines/online on sale days etc

Not forgetting that the waiting list has been closed for 7 years now - there may be a few that want to get on it still, maybe some of our younger fans too.

I'd bet on it for sure, not a chance we're spending £100m on a new Main, £50m on a new Anny, and then moving in 20 years.

There would be zero need anyway, that will put capacity to a level which we can (hopefully) fill consistently, there is no evidence what so ever (going back decades) that we could fill larger on a consistent basis.

Went past the Ground on Saturday. New gas pipe work being laid through the Main Stand Car Park. All houses virtually gone. Moving along now. Any idea what the next stages are?

Ground works and piling. You won't see any steel rising for many months. Once it does it will go up in a hurry.

Liverpool FC will begin construction work on the Anfield stadium redevelopment on Monday.

The Reds have already been working to clear houses around the ground in preparation for the development, which will see an extra 13,000 seats added to the main stand and Anfield Road end.

All the houses behind the Anfield Road are long gone. Its just a car park now.

Great news that the work (officially) starts now, guess it will be quite slow progress from now till the end of the season, then we'll have a burst of (visible) activity after May.

you wouldnt get the return on this work in 20 years so i think you are right.  Not sure there will any need to move.
