Hamilton's 7th.

Vettel nudged into retirement/Alonsoesque midfield tomfoolery.

Albon breaks through as good enough to compete.

McLaren take a step backwards as Racing Point come back into the mix.

Renault spend another season in the doldrums, leading to them pulling out and leaving Danny Ric high and dry.

Williams vs. Sauber for last place (whether Sauber drop or Williams improve remains to be seen).

All 6 drivers from the big three win a race.
If I were a linesman, I would execute defenders who applauded my offsides.

Notable changes to 2019....

Renault - Hulkenberg out, Ocon in
Williams - Kubica out (Joins Alfa Romeo as Reserve Driver), Latifi in.
Pre-season test reduced from 2 x 4 Days to 2 x 3 Days
Vietnam GP and Dutch GP added to Calendar
Mid-season testing scrapped

McLaren take a step backwards as Racing Point come back into the mix.

I don't see it. McLaren finished 'best of the rest' last season and scored their 1st podium in a long time. That attracts sponsorship = bigger budget = better development. Some consider they were let down by a mediocre Renault engine this year but they still beat several teams with Mercedes and Ferrari power units.

Also, on Racing Point you have to remember one of their drivers is there because of Daddy's chequebook, not on merit. Perez thumped him in the head-to-head battles in both qualifying and racing. Difficult to see how a team could 'come back into the mix' with only one decent driver.

Max Verstappen extends his Red Bull contract to 2023

Linudden is in the house gents  :wave

Silly season killed off before it even began. Unless he has some cast-iron release clause, which he surely won't, that means that all the top drivers save for maybe Bottas, are set to stay where they are for 2021. With the longest deal for a driver since the Alonso days, Ferrari have committed themselves to Leclerc's development and if Vettel gets the nod to stay he'll know that Leclerc is going nowhere for five years and have to deal with that.

There's just no way Max would've signed a new deal already if he thought Hamilton was off to Ferrari. No way.

Besides this, merely having one rookie for this season and it being a pay driver there because of daddy in the worst team on the grid isn't a good sign for the future at all. I'd expect Russell to annihilate him completely and maybe he'll finally be able to boot Bottas out from wasting the second Mercedes seat if he does. Having Russell learning from Hamilton is surely a lot more sustainable than a 30-something mid-pack driver who can't overtake nor drive in the wet. He's very fast over one lap sometimes, be he's a one-trick pony.

I don't know what people see in Albon. I genuinely don't. He'll be lucky to get some podiums. In a Red Bull last season, I'd venture any driver on the grid would've managed sixth in the second half of the season. In race trim, that car was miles clear of McLaren and Renault.

His junior career was extremely mediocre and has never been able to run with neither Verstappen nor Leclerc before. The only reason he is where he's at is because Sainz' relationship with Red Bull and Verstappen broke down completely and they ran out of drivers.

Does Vettel’s contract run out at the end of 2020 or 2021? Either way, I am surprised Verstappen has committed for so long, but then maybe he’s confident that RB and Honda are going places.

2020. With these news, I do believe he'll sign a new three-year deal and Hamilton likewise. Whether they'll fulfil those is another matter altogether. For older drivers, standard practice is probably more like that you commit that you won't race for another team in those multi-year deals you sign, but that you're free to depart the sport altogether if you so wish. I suspect this is what Alonso did with McLaren since he was still under contract with them for 2019 but didn't race in F1.

Last season, Honda did more or less what they'd done with Toro Rosso and Red Bull matched their Renault results and drove well at higher elevation (Austria, Mexico, Brazil). Given what Honda (didn't) achieve with McLaren I can understand that people who haven't been paying attention are surprised but they took a way bigger step between 2017 and 2018 than they've done since. Thing is, at sea level Red Bull were less competitive in 2019 than the year before at Monaco and Singapore, where the driveability of the Renault engine plays a role.

Carlos Sainz Sr (father of McLaren driver) has won the Dakar Rally for the 3rd time at the age of 57!

Fernando Alonso on the other hand finished 13th and had fun doing it

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/v/rObTNiJffu8" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">https://www.youtube.com/v/rObTNiJffu8</a>

As for F1 in 2020... The final year under the current regulations which may lead to the standard Mercedes procession. But Hamilton going for the record with Versatppen and LeCerc challenging is no bad thing.

Really hope it keeps the same style as last year and focusses on the stories and incidents, rather than taking the easy route of looking for viral characters following Steiner's rise to stardom.

Aston Martin getting a larger presence in F1 then....

Wonder what this means for Red Bull sponsorship? Assume that'll be dropped?

Lot of stuff kind of happening in the background.

Mercedes questioning their future in the sport last week as well

So I'm assuming this how this plays out

Aston Martin take over at Racing Point as a nice way to get the Aston Martin brand front and centre and Lance Stroll continues to play with his 1:1 toy car set.

Meanwhile I'm guessing Honda will push for more visibility at Red Bull?
